CPAP Cough

Post by anonymouscoward » Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:49 am

I've been using CPAP for about 3 or 4 years now and honestly I hate every second of it, less the some what okay sleep I get. That said, as of the last year I've noticed that every morning I wake up with a cough and it seems to persist. It seems to relate to post nasal drip.
I regularly blow the dust and crap out of the machine, which includes cleaning all of the components with warm soaping water on a weekly basis.

Is anyone else having these problems? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance for those that respond.

Are you using filters? The humidifier?

I hope you don't mean you actually go into the machine to clean...?

If your cough relates to PN drip, have you seen a doctor? It might be only related incidentally to Cpap.

If you have post nasal drip, there are meds for that

For post-nasal drip, you can try Flonase spray (takes a week or two to kick in) and NeilMed nasal rinses. A consultation with an ENT might also be a good idea. There are prescription meds that might help, and the ENT may determine that you need to see an allergist.

anonymouscoward.........

Wasn't mentioned what CPAP machine was being used. Is it by chance a Philips Dream Station and if so were you aware of the recall?

You've been using CPAP for 3 to 4 years. This cough started about a year ago.

Why didn't the cough start 3-4 years ago? You need to also consider non-CPAP related causes.
