I'm so Excited.

Post by Adamace1 » Sat Dec 17, 2022 7:59 am

I get my CPAP next week. I have spent the year with health problem after health problems. Most of them I think we're brought on br OSA. My score for how many times I stop breathing was 107. My blood Oxygen got to 55% when I did sleep study.

I then got to try a sleep study with cpap in hospital. I honestly can't believe how a few hours of good sleep with cpap in one night made me feel.
I felt good i forgot what that feels like. I'm usually exuasted if I sit ill fall asleep. If I drive for more than 30 minutes I start getting really tired. I'm not happy in my daily life because I felt like crap. I'm just so sick and tired of being tired. This year has been bad. I been reading alot on these forums. Thanks for all the good info.

On another note I was thinking it would be pretty cool if a Cpap machine would play the Danger Zone song when you put it on at night. Maybe call the Machine Mavrick CPAP.

Emphasis is mine. This is exactly what i said after getting confirmation of osa/diagnosis.

Once you get a machine and mask of your own, please post it in your siggy line. Make this your own personal story/thread so people can follow your actions and changes as you go along. And let us know what is working and not working and maybe we can help.

Welcome to the board!

Go into it with the expectation that there will be hurdles to jump over...because there will be. There are a lot of factors at play when it comes to dialing in your sleep therapy and also lifestyle changes that you need to be aware of. For example, I can't have more than 8oz of coffee each day and none after 12pm. It affects my sleep more than I originally thought...and I love coffee.

New machine coming -- what a great way to start the new year! Your experience with CPAP in the hospital tells me you're going to do great at overcoming any hurdles.

When the machine arrives, you might try setting it up somewhere outside your bedroom and using it for a few hours while you watch TV, read, or do something else low-key but diverting. This helps you acclimate more quickly to the new experience. You can do it each day for a while if that helps.

Watch videos about mask fitting for the mask you'll be using. Be sure you fit your mask when you're hooked up to the machine, have the machine running, and are lying in your bed. Try lying in your favorite sleep positions to see how good a seal you have.

There are a few accessories you could keep in mind as possibilities. Hose covers, especially fleecy ones, can be a boon. Hose lifts (aka hose stands) work well for some people too. Mask liners can improve the comfort of some types of masks. And strap covers can help reduce marks on your face in the morning. (Danger Zone you're going to have to supply yourself!)

Let us know how it goes once you get going!
