Nasal Soreness

Post by Ukbtaylor » Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:17 pm

Hi

I have been a Cpap user for about 2 years, recently I have started to get a very sore insides of my nose. I have done things such as change my mask (I have been through all available options at my local hospital), I bought a heated pipe and adjusted the humidity as much as I can before it rains out in my mask. Used saline sprays on a regular basis

Unfortunately this hasn’t really helped and I am currently waking with headaches which last most of the day. I am just as if not more tired before I got my cpap machine. I also wake up feeling like I have been coughing most of the night. My insides of my nose are also

Any suggestions what I can do ? I am getting to the point where I am near to giving up as I am not getting the benefits from it

where are you located?

Exactly which machine brand and model are you using?

Exactly what masks have you tried?

I am located in the Uk.

I have a DeVilbiss® IntelliPAP® Positive Airway Pressure Device which was provided by my local health service.

For masks, I am not sure exactly which ones they are but I tried everything from the Philips range, F&P Evor, f&p Simplus are the ones I remember. I always use a full face mask rather than a nasal mask

But are you using a mask that covers your nose and mouth ("full face") or one that just sits under your nose ('pillows') or a similar type that has small prongs that seal just inside your nostrils - the one I would guess that bothers them?

If it's the latter, it can be dealt with, but first you need to let us know that it is - the name of it as there are many different ones out there.

The F & P Evora comes in a full face version which uses and under the nose cushion placement.....think hybrid.
The Simplus is and over the nose full face mask and a more traditional full face mask.

I have no idea how or why any full face mask would cause pain or sores inside someone's nose.

Maybe nasal mucosa dryness from not enough moisture is the only thing I can maybe think of.

In the UK they don't often use the humidifier or added moisture....is a humidifier being use and if it is at what setting?

Try Nisita nasal ointment (https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=ayr+saline ... -doa-p_2_7).

Just before you put on your mask, apply the ointment inside your nostrils. Place a small amount on the tip of your finger. Stick it up one nostril and distribute it evenly. Repeat on the other nostril.

Nisita can also be used during the day if you have symptoms.
