Yes, this is a wonderful forum. As a matter of fact, I was out here reading all I could when I first had my sleep study and learned all I could about apnea.

I am more comfortable with the nasal mask which I have and am picking up a chin strap tomorrow to see how that works. I'm hoping it works out because it's so much less bulky than the full mask. I don't think I'd want to have to tape my mouth shut everynight, although my boyfriend might like it. LOL

I acually changed my machine to CPAP and changed my pressure from 9.0 to 9.6 and felt great today!

Thank you all for your knowledge!

Glad you felt great today and hope it lasts.

If you do decide to use a nasal mask, a chin strap almost never works (sorry), but if you don't want to tape you can try the Poligrip strips instead. Lots of people prefer them instead of the tape.

i hope my feeling good keeps up also. I'm so tired of feeling tired it isnt funny. It's one thing to feel exhausted throught half the day, but to awake and feel like you never slept is another.

Poligrip strips are actually denture adhesive strips. When moistened they get sticky. You wet the strip then place it between your lips and the lips stick together. If you need to force your mouth open you can, then just re-wet and re-stick. I prefer tape.

Hi....I'm one who does use a chin strap with a nasal mask, and it works well for me.....although the chin strap I got from the DME didn't work worth a darn. I made a strap from Ace Bandage, and it goes under my lower jaw, not on the chin. Since I only mouth breath when I relax and my jaw drops, the strap does not have to be tight at all. I can still yawn or cough without any problems. If I try to tape or use the Polygrip Strips, I just end up with Chipmunk Cheeks. The Ace Bandage takes care of that as well.

I learned so much after finding this forum. Stick around and I'm sure you will as well.

The narrow chin straps do not work for me. I now use a 2" to 3" wide strap that came from a cpap sales company. I also use a snorban dental device to help me eliminate mouth breathing and keep my jaw forward. Use any method that works for you but you must eliminate mouth breathing with a nasal mask or cpap will not work.

That is the only time my mouth opens also is when I get relaxed. I already had the perscription called in for the chin strap so I'm going to give it shot. If tht doesn't work,, the ace bandage sounds like a great idea,,, very comfortable too.

I know very little but the more I use this forum, the more knowledable I become. I think its great. I kind of found this site on my own before I was even diagnosed with OSA but beleive it or not when my therapist came out to set me up with the machine and I had questions for her, she recommended this site.

Great place to get hands on advice.
