Pressure
Pressure
Hi, I am new to OSA and am using an AirSense10 for a trial. My readings are 43AHI without the machine.
I can fall asleep fine with the ramp feature, although I always wake around an hours time, with unbearable amount of air pressure, I have to then turn the machine off.
I have noticed that my pressure settings are from 4-20, does this mean that after my ramp time I am using the setting of 20?
What would you recommend changing this to?
Thanks
Jason

Re: Pressure
welcome to the zoo!
in order to best help you, we're going to need some data from your machine. please see this thread-
viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html
if at any point you have any trouble with the software, formatting or posting the data, please let us know. we've all been there and know what it was like.
good luck!

Re: Pressure
If your settings are 4-20 that implies that you have a APaP machine. With an APaP , after the conclusion of the ramp, the pressure can VARY AS NEEDED by the machine from a low of 4cm to as high as 20cm. So no, you pressure does not go to 20 automatically after ramp conclusion.

There are quite a few here who can help with getting your settings dialed in, but they will need more information. As Zonker recommended, reading the Newbie sticky, download and install OSCAR, put an SD card into your machine, and post some graphs as detailed in the sticky. That way those knowledgeable can get all the information they need on a single screen.
While waiting you can start by changing your profile to reflect what specific machine and mask you have. BTW, almost everyone starts with a setting of 4-20, but many dial it into a smaller range to optimize therapy.
And for now, keep everything in this thread to make it easier for others to find the information needed to offer advise.

Re: Pressure
And for the record, the high of 20 is often left as is, the min. setting is just as often changed tho' to a higher (? 6 and up) one as it's the one that does the job... most have trouble inhaling at 4, which is the machine's default low... so setting a ramp time of anything is pointless... only if your min. setting is higher by a lot (e.g. over 10) would you want to use the ramp if you felt the initial blast (it isn't that) is too hard to take all at once... most of us don't use the ramp at all.
Re: Pressure
Just because a machine CAN go to 20 (or 25 like my machine can) doesn't mean that it IS actually going to 20 during the night.
Without seeing the detailed reports we are just guessing about anything and everything.
I have seen reports from people who swear the machine is blowing tornado force pressures and when we look at the reports the machine isn't even hitting 10 cm pressure.....ever.
Get OSCAR (or use SleepHQ) and share with us exactly what is happening and lets see what is going on first.
I will tell you this...if your machine is increasing the machine it has a good reason to be doing that.
But at this point we don't have any idea how much it is increasing or why or if anything can be done.

Impossible to offer any ideas without seeing the detailed reports.

Re: Pressure
@OP, post some graphs, many here can guide you about your machines settings, and offer advice to help you get used to it.
The OP is turning the machine off.
You would rather see him not using the machine at all, than derive some benefit, even if it isn't optimized. Your continuous attempts at discrediting people here with considerable experience is harming people.
This demonstrates what an absolute idiot you are.

Jason asked for a recommendation. Data simply pointed out the website's official disclaimer about recommendations.
Is that why are you flaming him?

We're dealing with dataq1, so exorcised would be more appropriate. You know, expel something unwanted, evil.
