Severe Mask Leakage
Severe Mask Leakage
I have been using my cpap for the past month and a half and until the past few days all has been going well. I'm not sure what's happening but the past few days I have been waking up multiple times in the night from the air blowing out of my mask and in my eyes. I always had a slight leak but it never bothered me but now its unbearable. This does not happen during the ramp period so I believe it occurs once the pressure starts ramping up.
I have a Resmed Autoset 11 and I believe its all the default settings with the nasal mask setting, I have a Dreamwear Nasal mask and I change the cushion every two weeks. I have tried different fame and cushion sizes and it only made things worse so I believe Im sized right. I tried loosening the headgear but that did not help, tonight I'm going to crank them down and see if that helps. Here is a Oscar screen shot from yesterday, one of my worst days. I took and hour nap and my machine said my AHI was 28.x. Anyting stand out? I really like the minimal mask type and would like to stay with the above head connection. Thank you

Re: Severe Mask Leakage
Do you have a mustache? Maybe it needs a trim?
You shouldn’t have to change out the cushions that often.
My N30 has minimal contact as yours does and i smear a teeny tiny bit of lansinoh lanolin on my nose at bedtime to form a tacky seal.
It’s 100% lanolin sold as nipple cream in the breastfeeding aisle. A little goes a long way.
Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream for Breastfeeding, 1.41 Ounces https://a.co/d/8IqoAne
These are my initial thoughts based on personal experience.
Except the mustache.
Welcome to the board. When you’re ready to break away from the default factory settings so you can optimize post a few days of data.
sorry I edited out a flubb

I do have a slight mustache but I do trim it quite often. Im gonna have to checkout that cream and see if it helps. I was looking for nasal liners but I dont think they make those. Thank You

Re: Severe Mask Leakage
Check the breastfeeding aisle. Walmart has it usually and so do many grocery stores and pharmacies.
That and a trim may help.
I know I mentioned a little goes a long way but I can’t emphasize enough. A heavy layer becomes counterproductive. I oftentimes blow my nose before bed to lighly dab off any excess. I’ve been using same tube since July and feel like I could get 3-6 more months off of it.

you might wanna look at https://www.padacheek.com/ to see if there are any liners there.

Re: Severe Mask Leakage
Before you get too deep into the rabbit hole, consider starting with the basics. Make sure the hose, tank, and mask, have no leaks you may be missing.

^^ This.
Lay on the bed and do the mask fit test. That will ratchet up the pressure. Check to see exactly where the leak is.
Re: Severe Mask Leakage
I did that yesterday and cranked back on the head gear until it stopped leaking. I think they are kind of tight but the leaking stopped so maybe I don’t have a choice.
Does anything stick out from my graphs that made you guys say WTF or are they normal ( if that’s a thing )
Thanks

Re: Severe Mask Leakage
The 4 cm minimum....I would be seriously considering increasing that minimum and seeing if stabilizing the pressure helped with leaks or sleep.
It's not horribly abnormal but it is far from optimal.
Maybe with less volatility in the pressures the large leaks might also settle down.

Re: Severe Mask Leakage
Many noobs crank their headgear so tight it makes creases in the cushion.
Creases = leaks.
Your mask should ride on your face with the cushion fully inflated with air.
Think hovercraft.

I’m sorry but your post made me laugh but I mosr def didn’t think hovercraft.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 11:53 amMany noobs crank their headgear so tight it makes creases in the cushion.

Agree with the sentiment though. Lanolin could def help as well as managing pressure swings.

I put a copy of the bullfrog's picture off his citizenship papers up in my cubicle.
He had a porn star mustache.
