I'd really like to get the Swift FX Nano to work, but I'm willing to try other masks. I'm having a hard time telling from photos whether any other nasal masks are less likely to push against the bottom of my nose. I can't tell at _all_ whether any of the new nasal cradle style masks would push against the part of the nose between the nostrils or not. I'm apprehensive about full face masks even though they're kind of the obvious thing to try in this situation because a) I'm a side-sleeper and b) the one full face mask I've tried, the ResMed AirFit F20, was a miserable experience for me. Do you have any mask suggestions that a) usually work well for side-sleepers and b) won't touch or push against the bottom of my nose? I've included some notes at the end of this post about my previous experiences in case that helps. Thank you so much for your help!
Issues I'm having with the ResMed Swift FX Nano:
- Air leaks out the top of the mask. I can't sleep on my back without lower back pain, so my side it is, but any time I shift around a bit while lying on my side, air starts jetting out the top. I use OSCAR to view my CPAP data and the first night I tried the Swift FX Nano, the overall Large Leak percentage for the night was about 50%. I've tried it a few more times and after adjusting the headgear fit some, the Large Leak percentage is down into the 20s. Unfortunately, I still have problems with air leaks jetting into my eyes.
- Mask slides up and pushes on bottom of nose. No matter how I position it, the mask slides up so that the inner edge of the cushion pushes against the bottom of my nose, which is a problem since that's what I was hoping to avoid! This seems to be worsened by the top of the mask tilting forwards, which of course also causes air leaks. I assume it's not supposed to tip forward and leak, but is resting against the bottom of my nose just how it's supposed to fit?
- Any Suggestions you have for getting a better fit with the Swift FX Nano!
- Getting disposable liners for the Swift FX Nano from RemZzz. Maybe they'll help at least diffuse the jet-like leaks of air?
- Getting the small/For Her Swift Nano FX. The Swift FX Nano measuring tool put me on the edge between the small cushion & frame and the standard cushion & frame. I went with the standard based on some reports on this column from people who had measured as small but found they got a better seal with the standard size. The edge of the mask sits where my (fairly full) cheeks start to really curve outwards, which may be affecting the fit. Maybe the small cushion & frame would fit better in the crease between my nose and cheeks?
- Trying another nasal mask. Preferably one that has a forehead strap since that might take care of the issue I have with the top of the mask tilting forward. Any recommendations?
- Trying a full face mask. Any suggestions for a side-sleeper?
- I tried a Resmed AirFit F20 during the CPAP titration study and a few times at the very beginning of using a CPAP, and it didn't go well. Even though it supposedly wasn't leaking very much (green smileys from the machine), every time I moved new jets of air would hit my eyes until I used my hands to nudge the mask back into position. The headgear also put a lot of strain on the nape of my neck, which I was already prone to headaches from pressure on.
- I'm a nose-breather and I don't have trouble keeping my mouth closed at night unless my nose gets stuffed up. I actually had trouble with that in the AirFit F20, even with the heated humidifier running. The P10 nasal pillows do a great job of keeping my nose from getting stuffed up. The Swift FX Nano is somewhere in between, and I'm not sure whether the slight stuffiness is due to the leaks I get with it or is just because it's not directing the air flow directly into my nostrils.
- I sleep on my side, sleeping on my back causes lower back pain after even one night. That means that fixing fit issues with a nasal or full face mask by sleeping on my back while the piercing is healing isn't an option.
