My mask started making "popping" noises throughout the night... It was the weirdest thing...
A quick Google search indicated that the popping noise was not coming from my mask, but from my CPAP machine, and that it was caused by my humidifier settings, and that it happens when there is too much moisture/water in my tube...
It only recently started getting a little "chilly" in the evenings, and apparently the temperature difference between my cold room temps, and the heated humidified water was creating condensation in my tubing...
Some suggested solutions to this are either to:
- Turn down my humidifier settings
- Wrap a fabric tube "cozy" around my tube to keep it warmer
- Use a heated tube
Have any of you experienced this "popping" sound at all? I thought I was going crazy, but the Google search proved to me that it is a common problem...
Popping Noises
Re: Popping Noises
Been there and done that lots of times myself.
My nose needs lots of moisture and I prefer a cold/cool bedroom ambient temp......recipe for condensation in the mask or hose that we commonly call rain out.
I have a list of potential options here....posts number 2 and 3

Very common complaint.

Re: Popping Noises
Thanks! I always perceived that "rainout" would result in water dripping into my nose through the mask (which I have experienced before)...
The "popping" noises surprised me... I wasn't ready for that...
I'll have a look at your referenced posts... Thanks!

Re: Popping Noises
Seconding what Pugsy has already said.
I too have a nose that seems to want lots of humidity.
One thing that you can do when the popping/crackling noise is actually happening in the middle of the night is to simply raise the whole hose up above the level of the machine. That allows the condensed water to flow back into the humidifier. And I can go back to sleep without any more popping keeping me awake.
In my case, I tend to get that characteristic popping noise in spite of using a hose cozy and having (most) of the hose under the bedcovers. The problem occurs if there is a dip/low spot in the hose between the machine and where my hose comes up over the side of the bed. That low spot is where the condensed water accumulates.

Re: Popping Noises
Thanks for the feedback...
I ordered, and just received shipment of my heated tube... So I will have to experiment with that for a bit...
At this point, I am still using the unheated tube and have turned my humidity setting down one notch... I also have tried to bury as much of my excess tubing underneath my blankets to act as a partial "cozy" to keep it warm... So far, no popping noises... But I'll probably break out the heated tube when I started experiencing those problems again...
