Pre S8 resmed card reader

Post by track » Mon Mar 26, 2007 1:49 pm

Anybody have a resmed card reader that works for a card that is 1.25 inches by 1.75 inches 32MB that they are no longer using and want to sell? The new card reader for the S8 won't fit my Autoset spirit which was made around 2003.

Please clarify which machine you have - is it the S7 AutoSet Spirit? (Your picture shows the AutoSet Vantage.) If it's the S7, does it have a rather large 'addition' which houses your data card?

Looking at the information provided in AutoScan 5.7, it seems that the S7 AutoSet Spirit can get data from the machine to the computer in 2 ways:

1) Via null modem cable. (If yours is the S7, there should be two ports on
the back, one of which is a 9 pin serial port.)

2) Via a ResLink module - these are rather expensive units; if your machine has a large 'addition' which houses the card, it may be this module. (Eureka! Your description of a 32 mb card matches the information here.)

If this proves to be correct, you will have access to quite a wealth of information. Looks like the reader you want may well be obtainable from http://www.sleepfitness.com/accessories.php?cid=17; look for Product Code: 22212.

(Aside - from the ResLink information, looks like you may be able to set up for pulse oximetry readings, if you can find the parts.)

If you seek further information, post here and I'll see what I can dig up. Not expert at this stuff, but can ferret out information.

Thanks for the help Jim. The Resmed people told me today I needed the

SmartMedia Card ReadersTM - USB
Product Code: 30944
RRP : $250.00 Member Price: $240.00 |

They also mentioned a 2 pack of product code 30992. I have no idea what it is for.

I can't believe a friggen card reader cost so much. It's ridiculous. My machine just says it's an autoset spirit and autoset advantage.

The new AutoSet Spirit™ autotitrating device takes positive airway pressure therapy another giant leap forward. Starting with the same AutoSet™ algorithm that made the AutoSet™ the pinnacle of OSA treatment, ResMed has created the AutoSet Spirit™ with an optional integrated humidification system, new patient data display, and a smaller, lighter, and more attractive design. Photo shows Spirit with optional HumidAire 2i that can be purchased separately.

Track, what country are you in? I take it from the fact that you have the Spirit and that Resmed would even discuss the software and reader w/you much less tell you what you needed that you are NOT in the USA!!!

Good detective work, JimW! I appreciate the additional information!!!

slinky.....US resident....they asked me if I was a distributor and I told them the truth..no. I told the guy I knew I wasn't supposed to be buying this stuff but I would appreciate the help and he helped me. I had bought the card reader in the US so apparently this rule of not selling it in the US doesn't apply to all.

track, I used several S7 machines including the Spirit and an S7 VPAP III. I didn't ever bother to buy the ResLink attachment. I had the Autoscan software in my computer, and I used the download cable that JimW mentioned:

1) Via null modem cable. (If yours is the S7, there should be two ports on the back, one of which is a 9 pin serial port.)

I bought that cable from cpap.com:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Resmed ... Cable.html

I carried the Spirit to my computer desk any time I wanted to do a download. Plugged the cable into the back of the Spirit and into my computer. Did the download directly from the machine via the cable, without using a card or card reader. Carried the Spirit back to the bedroom.

For the difference in price between buying just the cable or that expensive ResLink module, I didn't mind carrying the Spirit back and forth once every 5 days or so.

If your computer has only USB ports, though...doesn't have a serial port on it.... you'd have to also buy a USB-to-serial adapter for the cable. You can buy that adapter from any place that carries computer stuff.

rested gal....you're the greatest. My computer has a 9 pin port and it has a smaller Oxy port. I don't mind carrying it to the computer at all. Will cpap sell that to me directly?

If cpap.com still has those cables, I'm sure they'll sell you one.

I guess you already know that you can see your overnight AHI, AI, HI, and leak info in the display window on top of the Spirit...without even having any software at all. Just by holding down together the left/right buttons -- if you do that before 12 noon the next day. Same feature that's on the S8 machines.

I don't recall if that feature is on by default...maybe not. Anyway, it can be set to "1" for "On" through the clinical menu. The Clinical Manual for the Spirit says this about that:

Pressure*
(Smart Data)
Displays 95th centile pressure from the
previous session, if enabled in Clinical
Menu, Options, Smart Data.

I LOVE having that ability to check the pressure, the leak and the AHI numbers at my finger tips every morning. It's great. I sometimes check it in the middle of the night..LOL..I must be psycho.

Sounds like you already have the card (and ResLink module?); a pair of cards would run you ~$230. The link for the ResLink on the ResMed site lists product code 22212. If you have any interest in the additional information available through the card, I'd check with the folks at sleepfitness - they were quite good at answering my questions.

As for the null modem cable, check http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid ... DT&cpc=SCH; as long as the serial connector matches your computer and the pinout on the APAP, you should be in business for far less than what you'll pay for an "authentic" ResMed cable.

Edited to add: Google search on resmed 30944 yielded https://id312.securedata.net/cpaphaven. ... &x=10&y=12
I know nothing about this outfit, but it might be worth checking out. Could be they just have something left over they're trying to get rid of.

Track,

Just to add to the load of help already provided, take a look at this pic - it shows 4 models. Is yours the one with the blue panel ?

http://www.internetage.com/cpapinfo/vpa ... C01072.jpg

That is an S7 Autoset Spirit.

(the other 3 are variations of VPAP III models - S, S Enhanced, & S/T)

The ResLink module clips on the back of any of these modules & has a data card reader very much like you have described.

http://www.respicuremedsys.com/reslink.htm (ResLink module & how it fits)

If you have a ResLink module then you are one of the lucky few - they have a Pulse Oximeter built in. IIRC the data can be extracted via the serial cable link - what I don't know is if you need to have a data card in the ResLink module to do this, if indeed you have a ResLink module.

Good luck - sounds like you are having great fun playing with the gear you have

DSM

#3 PPS Those prices in the link Jim gave 'SleepFitness' are Aussie $s so multiply them bu 0.81 to convert to $US.

Cheers Doug (PS some other Aussies sites offer even lower prices )

DSM...nice detective work....much appreciate it. Mine is the blue one you pointed out. You found my machine and I do have the reslink module attached with the 32 MP card inside. I guess all I need now is a cable to run it to the computer. I wonder if I need a separate cable for the oximeter..it has it's own plug in.

Used off-the-shelf accessories

Post by kteague » Wed Mar 28, 2007 9:38 am

I have the AutoSet Spirit (Advantage) (blue panel in above noted picture). I got my cord and adapter off the shelf at a local office supply store. I do as Rested Gal does and download my data periodically directly to my computer using the AutoScan software.

I also check my numbers every morning in the display window. Of late, my AHI, Leak & Pressure numbers are consistently good, so when I look at the reports, what I'm looking for is how broken my sleep is, and the Usage Profile shows that at a glance. (I'm not one to lay awake with my mask on. If I'm awake, just turning the machine off, removing the mask momentarily, and starting over seems to cue my brain it's time to sleep.)
