trying masks
trying masks
Two questions:
1. Is tooth pain from a loosely worn chin strap mean it's the wrong strap or maybe I can't wear a strap? Any looser and my mouth falls open. Only had it on for an hour.
2. Is having red marks on your face after only an hour with a full face mask typical? Again, was so loose it would fall off if any looser.

Re: trying masks
Are using a chin strap with a ff mask?
I do get red marks after wearing. Not certain when they begin to appear.

Thanks. No. My sister wanted me to try the nasal pillow and chin strap she uses. I started with just the chin strap, but got tooth pain. Switched to full face. I don't like that it pushes my cheeks in between my teeth and leaves red marks, but otherwise it's not so bad.TropicalDiver wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:06 pmAre using a chin strap with a ff mask?

I get tooth pain from my TMJ/bruxism. I had an N30i and the headgear made the pain much worse.onward60 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 9:11 pmThanks. I still haven't fully fixed my jaw and my teeth keep whacking together but I now use an N30 (no i) with the old school straps without the buckle which was inconveniently placed at my temple. I like the fit better but by the time I get my jaw finally aligned again and the temporal headaches gone I will be due for my 3 month cleaning at the dentist and start all over again.
Good luck and hope that answers your question about the tooth pain. No clue about the face strap, but can say some here have tried taping their mouths shut and I think some use polident?

Re: trying masks
If you are getting red marks from the strap, strap pads from PADACHEEK will help. If you are getting red marks from the mask cushion, you probably have it too tight.

Re: trying masks
It's the cushion but it is not too tight. I have the straps very loose because I am just practicing getting used to the feel of something on my face.Okie bipap wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 5:36 pmIf you are getting red marks from the strap, strap pads from PADACHEEK will help. Thanks. My sister said tape didn't hold her mouth shut and sent me the chin strap she uses. It hurt my teeth. I think I'd like to try tape. They get such wildly mixed reviews its hard to know which one to try.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 4:28 pmLots of people here use mouth tape.
On Amazon, search for "sleep tape". I use the type that is in the shape of an X.

Re: trying masks
May I suggest keeping the masks and then trying them again sometime in future. It sounds illogical but some masks I previously thought were no good were later ok for me. I waited about a year. YMMV.
Regarding tape, my skin is pretty fragile at age 77. I seek tape that is gentle on skin. That may factor into your decision.

Re: trying masks
The X-tape I mentioned is cheap. If it doesn't work out, you haven't lost much money. Somnifix on the other hand is expensive.
Whichever tape you try, one tip is to turn your lips in slightly as you apply the tape.

Re: trying masks
A question for the ladies, how long do you wait after putting on face creams to use mouth tape and/or put on your full face mask? I was thinking if I washed my face and put creams on right after supper, I would be OK by bedtime?

Re: trying masks
I cannot get a good seal if I have lotions, etc where my mask sits. I use an oily skin micellular water on a cotton round where my mask sits after I wash my face.
