Hi,

I just found out that I have very bad bruxism and tmj, my dentist want me to wear a night guard. Can I wear a night guard and use my CPAP machine together. Which mask would work the best with CPAP machine like nasal pillow mask, nasal mask or full face mask.

I hope someone would help me out and thanks you

I have TMJ and while I am still new to this, I found that the resmed airfit N30i was bothering my tmj. I tried P10 with the oldschool strap (no buckle) and tmj Headache went away but I had little sleep loss because I didn’t like the way the pillows feel in my nose. To be fair I didn’t give myself much time to get used to it. Some people love them. Because I started out with the cushions And I like them so I have requested the n30 (no i) and I will put the old-school straps on there.

I don’t have time right now to look it up and provide you links but you can look at the mask that I have in my profile and I hope My new mask will do the trick.

Hope that helps

Also I hope that you know how to find that out with these products are. The n30 is sort of a hybrid between the P 10 in the n30i

Yes, you can wear a night guard and use the cpap machine.
As to which type of mask might be better suited....they can all be used but some of them might be more comfortable than others when you have the mouth guard in place and it also depends on the type of mouth guard.
Straps on masks will also impact the TMJ thing. You don't want much tension and you want to avoid pressure points from the straps resting on the TMJ area as well.
So the headgear is likely to be something to look at as well. You will want as little of headgear as possible.

Look at the mask I use..the Bleep...no headgear and about as nothing of a mask as there is out there.
I could easily be using a night guard if I needed it.
I have also used the P10 and N30....very little headgear and I could easily be using a mouth guard with either.

I also have bruxism and I have cracked 4 teeth over the years because of this. Of course, those teeth had to be replaced, I chose implants.

On to your question.

Around the same time that I stated CPAP treatment I also stated using a dentist made nighttime occlusal device, a night guard, that fits over my top teeth. I've been using this for around 10 years or so. It wasn't cheap and at the time my dental insurance didn't cover such things, they do now.

I use a Swift FX mask and the night guard and the mask work well together. I believe that the guard actually helps me keep my mouth shut at night.
