That is awesome! I hope it works well. Last night was my first night with the Resmed F 24 facemask. I think it went pretty good for the first night. I like that if I need to mouth breathe, lol, that I can and it won't cost too much dryness. At least I have options now hope the new mask is awesome!lynninnj wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 6:27 pmI like this chipper Billy.Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:58 pmlynninnj wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 12:40 pmPMA!
Embrace feeling pretty good!
Make sure you take care of the skin on your face so you don’t have problems like you did before.
Having discomfort when you’re trying to fall asleep whether it’s your face or a twisted ankle or a back pain-none of it is good for falling to sleep.
Good luck and keep it up!
Thank you! I am very pleased about today. I will keep that area clean! And yes, you are right, its very hard to sleep with pain. Hope you are doing well. How is your therapy going?
I am doing well thank you. I just got a mask that I think it’s going to be the perfect fit for me and I can’t wait to go to sleep. Lol

Re: How to determine Good Sleep?
Hey folks!
I am finally going to get the PSG and MSLT in a few weeks. I will sort that part out of my sleeping issues. Separately.
I switched to the F 20 facemask and I find that it's a bunch better for me in terms of comfort when I sleep. It's easy for me to go to sleep in it. But I noticed that my AHI is a little bit higher. Whereas it was under two consistently it is now between two and three consistently. Any thoughts?

IMO the AHI is totally irrelevant as most > all of those events are SWJ-related.
There are some areas of good sleep but overall continuity should remain graded as "Train Wreck". Objectively, this will be supported on NPSG as spontaneous arousals, awakenings, Stage1%, WASO and eyeballing the histogram.

Good to know, thank you so much. Doctors are closing in on idiopathic hypersomnia. One more test to confirm, and then I can get the proper medication to get the proper stages of sleep.Rubicon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 3:45 pmIMO the AHI is totally irrelevant as most > all of those events are SWJ-related.

Once they get my hypersomnia under control things should get much better.

If you have TWA then pretty much by definition you can't have idiopathic hypersomnia.
That said, see what the data reveals.

TWA?
2 previous EEGS, one done before apnea treatment, and one after. And my symptoms.
I’ve already been diagnosed with Hypersomnia by both doctors. The question before was the apnea the cause. It isn’t
I was told I have 3 times the amount of REM sessions a night as I should be having.
Symptoms:
- endless REM sleep. never refreshing.
- REM sleep during nap
- half awake state where I feel half conscious but frozen
- dreams while I am half sleep. I am consciously aware of what’s happening in the room, but I am simultaneously dreaming.
- waking up from a dream and not knowing if it was real
- when I was a kid I heard voices in that state
-hypnagogic hallucinating
- when I was younger I would act out REM dreams. Punching the air, grabbing a loved one next to me while dreaming.
- I always remember my dreams
- weak knees buckling at times (not necessarily connected to extreme emotion)
- constant need for naps that are unrefreshing
- falling asleep during movies/tv shows that are monotonous
- sleep attacks behind wheel
- always sleeping in cars/busses
- continuing with an activity without having any recollection of it afterwards (driving)
- head nodding/sleep attacks
- able to fall asleep in any position anywhere. plane. bus. car.

Well if you're narcoleptic it's not "idiopathic".

Re: How to determine Good Sleep?
That’s absolutely true. Rhe only testing difference between Narcolepsy and ideopathic Hypersomnia, is either less than five minutes or less than eight minutes sleep latency on an MSLT. Both narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia are a collection of symptoms caused by too much REM dream state, or sleep state.
I’m sure you know that. It is generally speaking underdiagnosed and I have a family history of it, or at least family members that have the same symptoms. Especially the hypnagogic hallucinations.
I personally believe I’ve had it since I was 18. I think in the last few years it’s gotten worse. So I’m very excited to hopefully be near treatment. Most narcoleptics and people with idiopathic hypersomnia have a mean 13 years before they get treatment or a diagnosis.
Re: How to determine Good Sleep?
Negative on that. See ICSD:Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 4:51 pmBoth narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia are a collection of symptoms caused by too much REM dream state, or sleep state.
Idiopathic hypersomnia is differentiated in part by the absence of REM-related features, such as cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations, and two or more REM periods on an MSLT.

Well it’s one or the other

How did you determine this?

Re: How to determine Good Sleep?
OK maybe 2 (or so) questions:
You certainly don't have to wait months, but we're past that.
Ask her how sleep apnea generates more REM.
Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 11:09 amYesterday's doctor's appointment was extremely illuminating. I have lived the last year thinking I have narcolepsy. And while it's possible I do, the doctor's exact words were: "I am not going to even entertain a diagnosis of narcolepsy until you have done CPAP treatment for months". Additionally see said that the REM periods could be caused by Sleep Apnea and that there was zero evidence to support the diagnosis.
If you told her those symptoms how could she possibly say there is zero evidence? You've got 5 out 5 criteria (OK, the REM naps thing, but we'll get to that).Billymadison420 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 4:36 pmI was told I have 3 times the amount of REM sessions a night as I should be having.

I was very in love with the idea that I don't have Narcolepsy. I mean, who would WANT to have it. She was very much trying to convince me that I don't have it. She was very dismissive of me. But after further chats, she has moved off that position.
Re: How to determine Good Sleep?
IMHO Part of your brain actually wants to have narcolepsy because there is a pill for that problem.
You want the fatigue issues you are having to be fixed by a pill and the cold hard fact of life is that your train wreck sleep quality may not be from narcolepsy and it's going to be much, much harder to figure it out and fix it.
I am going to be out of touch for about a week starting tomorrow afternoon. Going to Las Vegas to visit my daughter and grandson. So my time here is going to be limited to approving new account posts and not approving spam posts.
I don't do a lot of replies on the iPad I will be taking. Typing on it is a PITA.
You are in good hands with Rubicon though.
