Newbie (4 weeks) CPAP user with nasal cushion on - ResMEd 11 - here.Past few weeks noticed new teeth sensitivity. Had teeth cleaning today & I was told this is connected to using the CPAP - the timing of the sensitivity & getting the CPAP matches. Dentist told me to use Sensodyne toothpaste and ACT dry mouth mouthwash. I have also experienced soar throats, so I am probably mouth breathing intermittently which could be the issue and maybe the type of mask?
Anyone experience this?Did you change anything CPAP related to overcome this? Thanks!!
Teeth Sensitivity from CPAP?
Re: Teeth Sensitivity from CPAP?
You need to get the mouth breathing under control. Therapy is ineffective if you are mouth breathing with a nasal mask. And the drying out is bad for your teeth. So even if you use a FF mask, if you still mouth breathe, you'll still have issues with your teeth if the mouth breathing continues.
Some things that might help:
1. A soft cervical collar to support your chin.
2. Taping. Some people tape a lot, but start out trying a piece of vertical tape from upper lip to chin.
3. In the beginning I used chapstick--until keeping my mouth sealed became a more ingrained habit. It was just sticky enough to keep my lips together. Sometimes people use denture adhesive.
4. Chinstrap. I've heard good things about the Ruby chinstrap which I believe is carried by our hosts at cpap.com.
Make sure your nose is clear so you aren't mouth breathing because of a stuffy nose.
