How does a resmed (or any another cpap) remember the time and date?
How does a resmed (or any another cpap) remember the time and date?
This is the story:
About a year ago, I dragged out my backup resmed S9. I was having trouble setting the time and date etc.; and out of frustration, I just reset the date a full month ahead so I could use the machine. Problem is: I dragged it out again and now I want to set the date properly and the machine wont let me back-date it.
Ok, but how does the machine remember and track the date and time in the first place? Perhaps through the modem?? but if it was the modem, why wouldn't I get the proper date and time when I turned it on this year?
How did the machine hold and track the date and time when it has been sitting on the shelf in the bag, and not plugged in for an entire year! Does it have a little rechargeable battery like a computer?

You'll have to delete all user data because you can't set the time/date to any time before data that's saved in the machine.tyrinryan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 11:05 pmThis is the story:

yes, it has a battery.

Re: How does a resmed (or any another cpap) remember the time and date?
The Resmed product manual for the airsense 10 does not list any internal battery nor does it indicate that an internal battery failure could cause a problem.
The only reference I could see to an internal battery is under the warranty section on page 20 where it lists the warranty on the "internal and external batteries" as 6 months.
I remember having my old IBM computers completely shut down when the little coin battery would fail---go get a new one right!! etc. However, I have never had this problem with a modern laptop---perhaps it is the same modern tech with the Resmed?
Has anyone had a resmed internal battery fail or know of anyone this has happened to? Maybe the only consequence is the date and time function failure and the recording function? Perhaps the machine continues to work vis-a-vis the blower etc.?
I watched a u tube on the break-down of an airsense 10 and I couldn't see any coin battery but there is a suspicious round black thing just above the main control knob. Is this the battery????

CMOS would retain data without power. No battery needed.

S9 battery:

Air10 battery:

Air10 battery:
CMOS absolutely does require batteries to retain values should power not be available.

Where ever did you get that totally wrong idea?

Thanks Dog and Rider for the comments and pics very very clear
Have you ever heard of someone's S9 or AS10 conking out because the battery failed? or do these things last forever???

I haven't heard of any specific incidents of these devices failing because of failed batteries.
Should their batteries fail, after losing power, upon their Run Time Clocks would be off, their configuration and settings *may* be reset as well.
PCs upon losing power, would reset their RTCs, but more importantly the CMOS disk geometry would be lost and then they couldn't boot.
