Is the MyAir app accurate??

Post by cabanalane » Tue May 31, 2022 2:35 pm

Been using this app to help me manage how I'm doing, so I consider it an useful tool.

I wonder about the Mask Seal rating. In the early days, I would struggle with that, and receive a lower number. Now, I generally get 20 out of 20. Good, correct?

However, I know for a fact that I had several leaks last night that woke me up, I say 6-7 leaks. So how could that still be 20/20?

If I can't count on that, then how can I count my number for the Number of Events?

Resmed Airsense 11.

Just because you feel a leak doesn't mean that it is big enough or last long enough to impact your leak score from MyAir.
You don't have to have zero leaks to get that 20/20 score.

The AHI will be correct as well.

Or you can see essentially same numbers on the machine LCD screen sleep report minus the "score" that MyAir assigns to things.

Do you know how to get the sleep report results on the machine's LCD screen?

You can go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your machine and in the manual it will explain how to turn on the menu where you can see more details in the sleep report on the machine LCD screen.

MyAir is as accurate as the data it receives from your machine. However the "scores" that Resmed allocate are (in my view) potentially quite misleading. In terms of leaks you will get a score of 20/20 for a 95% leak between 0 and 16 L/min. This reduces on a sliding scale to zero points for 55 or more L/min. But for AHI you'll get 5/5 points for AHI = 0 to 6, reducing down to 0 at AHI >= 19. So you could have a REALLY BAD AHI and still get a 95% WELL DONE if the other parameters are within limits. This is very misleading and potentially dangerous. Having said that, I don't know if MyAir will flag such a bad AHI outside the score process.

To see how the scores are allocated, go to the history tab and touch the (?) icon.

In my view MyAir is fine for a quick look, but as mentioned above you can get the same information direct from your machine. To really understand what's happening you need a proper reporting program like Oscar or SleepHQ. Note that SleepHQ is still in beta testing and has a way to go to catch up to Oscar.
* Download Oscar
* Oscar help
* An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

Thanks everyone. When I met with my doctor, it was a session via phone (due to Covid restrictions at the hospital), I was pretty happy based on my numbers from MyAir app. I got the feeling they weren't all that thrilled as I was. That make sense now, as they can see more info than I can with MyAir app.
