Resmed airfit f20 - breathing out

Newbie here. I have recently acquired a smartmed autoset machine with a resmed airfit f20 mask.
Like most I am finding it a little difficult getting used to but whilst I am comfortable breathing in I find that when I breathe out that no air seems to come out. The resmed mask doesn't have holes in the top like the f&p simples or vitera so I don't know if I am consuming back all of my CO2. Am I imagining this or does the machine or mask allow for air to come out somewhere else? Can those with the resmed airfit f20 feel around the holes around the connection to see if their breath is coming out? When its off i can feel lots of air coming through but not when the machine is on.

The F20 has what is called a diffused venting system. A couple of ResMed masks now use this diffused venting system and it can be difficult to actually feel the air move out through the vent holes.

The other brands of masks you have tried like the Simplus don't have this diffused venting system so you will feel the air move a lot more.

I have used a ResMed mask in the past called the P10. It also uses a diffused venting system and the air moving out of the vent holes can barely be felt and only if I put my wet fingers up about an inch from the vent holes.

You have nothing to worry about. The F20 mask can move enough air out through the diffused venting system so that you aren't rebreathing an excess amount of your own carbon dioxide that you exhale.

I have an airsense 10 and use the same mask. Had the same concerns regarding that, but it really does vent well. I am a year tomorrow post diagnosis and having my machine and no problems at all.

While you cannot feel the air moving out of the mask, if you hold your hand close to the mask, the air will feel warmer when you exhale, and cooler when you inhale. when you breath out, the air is warmed by your breath. When you are inhaling, only air from the machine is exiting and is cooler than your exhaled breath. I have used the F20 since shortly after it was released, and had the same question. One of the other members of the forum explained the difference in the air exiting from the mask.
