Fitting Dreamwear nasal mask - help needed
Fitting Dreamwear nasal mask - help needed
Request help fitting Dreamwear nasal mask. I have been using this mask recently. The problem is with leaks at levels 14-20 (pressure 8 in CPAP mode, System One unit). I've tried different nasal cushions, but the problem remains. I will be grateful for any advice. What could be wrong?

Re: Fitting Dreamwear nasal mask - help needed
I can give you my experience. My pressure is between 10-15. I have been trying many masks as I start my 3rd month on CPAP. First was Vitera Full Face mask they sent me home with, hated that. Purchased Eson 2 and that got me to keep CPAP and wore that for a month. Was not bad but was not 100% comfortable. My upper lip was irritated some and could not scratch my nose. I then tried Dreamware and Brevida. Finally settled in on Dreamware but needed to decide on Nasal Cushion, Gel Pillows, Silicon Pillows. Gel Pillows went out the window fast. They sealed great but irritated my nose. May try then again later but so far out of the running. Silicone Pillows is slightly winning out over Nasal Cushion since it needs a lot less pressure to seal and gives me more access to my nose to scratch.fonon wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:12 amRequest help fitting Dreamwear nasal mask. Now regarding sealing assuming you have the correct fit headgear and cushion / pillows (Dreamware should give you a sizing card you put up to your nose and instruction on the headgear frame.):
I am 100% fine on my back, it is when I move to the side I have issues. There does seem to be some techniques to master. When you roll over your headgear seems to remain still and your head moves in it. I have to lift my head off the pillow and move it slightly to get into the position I want it to settle in. Hard to explain but you don't want your head twisting inside the headgear. I also find they both tend to seal better as the night goes on but once you break the seal it takes a while for it to stick to your face again. I find the nasal cushion seals better the tighter I make it and just the opposite for pillows. I really have to loosen the strap up for the pillows. It can be annoying especially with the pillows. I have not used Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream on my nose yet but I bet that would make a good seal. Just concerns about cleaning the cushion each morning.
Sorry no magic answers for you other than trial and error. If you have not tried all 3 cushions I would give them a try, they just snap on and off. If you can stand the Gel Pillows you should not have any seal issues. I think the Silicon Pillows are most comfortable when they are not leaking. That said I have effectively 0 leaks reported each night with any of them. Just a matter of fidgeting with them every time they leak and going back to sleep.
I hope all of this was of some use to you. If you figure it out be sure to let me know.

PS: I just went and tested the Gel Pillows on a mask fit test, 20 cm. Boy they seal like a champ no matter how you bounce around. Just a lot of pressure on your nares. The new silicone ones barely touch your nose but the older gel ones make a hard seal. May just have to get used to the feel before it feels okay. I am going to try them again tonight and see if I can make it through without any discomfort.

The PRS1 doesn't have a mask fit setting. Set your pressure at the highest pressure fixed in CPAP mode, then lie down in your normal sleep position and adjust your mask. I find this mask has to be tighter than the usual masks, but not so tight it gives you a "piggy nose". When I turn in bed I place a finger on the mask just below the nose to hold it in place, then readjust the headgear.
