Dreamstation 2 vs System One - replace the device or the foam

Post by fonon » Tue Apr 05, 2022 1:35 am

Should I replace System One unit with Dreamstation 2, or should I replace the foam? Reviews on the DS2 are generally critical. I do not use a humidifier; my device works in CPAP mode.

Are these actually 'reviews' from real users or simply opinions from people that no longer like the Philips/Resperonics brand and have not ever used the DS2? I have a DS2 that replaced a DS1. It does what it is supposed to do and in some ways better than the DS1. I have a couple small niggles about the the design, but those are minor. It's quieter than the DS1 was and more compact which fits on my nightstand better. The DS2 does not as of yet work with the OSCAR software (other than an Alpha test version presently), but if you use DreamMapper the basic data can be viewed daily which has been adequate for me.
If the DS2 for you is a replacement for the recall, why not get it and have it as a spare for when your System One takes a permanent time out. You could also remove the foam from the System One.

Many things depend on the mode of use of the device. If someone does not use a humidifier - the DS2 is larger and probably works louder (my friend has the DS2 and claims that it works louder than the DS1). The other friend doesn't notice the difference. I like my System One and would not like to replace it with a worse model. Unfortunately, Philips asks me to return the previous one.

You only are supposed to return it after you receive the replacement. I would,

1. Take the Dreamstation 2 and give it a good trial run.

2. Keep the System One. Philips is probably in such a mess that they cannot keep up with who has returned machines and who has not. You now have two machines and one will be a backup.

3. Should Philips later threaten you over an unreturned machine, you have decision to make:
  • a. Return the System One, or
    b. Tell them you don't want their dad blamed Dreamstation 2; return it; and keep the System One.
Your health is the priority. After all, Philips put you in this fine mess through no fault of your own.

The DS1's that are returned to Philips are being refurbished and sent to those that are in need of a DS1. The System One is a discontinued model that I suspect would only be destroyed/recycled if it was sent back. I can't envision Philips pushing too hard to have it returned only to be scrapped.
