AirSense 11 issue
AirSense 11 issue
I recently got an AirSense 11. After exhaling for about a second, the air pressure seems to abruptly shut off completely (not just diminish from what I can tell) before abruptly coming back on again (quite loudly and forcefully) a second or so later. This is despite the fact that both EPR and Ramp are **OFF**. I've used multiple ResMed autoset products before this dating back to 2007 and have not had a similar issue in the past (even with EPR on). Is anyone able to tell me what is going on? Is this some new, odd feature (and, if so, what is the point) or is my device defective? My DME respiratory therapist was also baffled. Thank you.

Re: AirSense 11 issue
This phenomenon should show up on some OSCAR graphs.
You should also be able to compare it to your other ResMed products, compare to your past graphs if you have them.
If not hopefully you still have your previous device, fire it up stick an SD card and get some data.
Maybe posting the graphs and someone will notice something, I'm thinking it will show up in the "Mask Pressure" Trace and a good comparison will be the "Pressure" trace.
It "sounds" like a defect, and graphs may demonstrate as much, or at least give some solid evidence to your DME so they can move from baffled mode to get you a new machine mode.

Re: AirSense 11 issue
Thanks for your reply. Comparison not needed. This didn't happen on prior devices, period. I may have not been explaining it well enough, but suffice it to say, the noise is in no way subtle. I've been able to identify that the loud thumping noise itself is from the two AirFit 30i mask valves closing rapidly again on inhalation. When I feel the "vent" area where the hose connects to the tubing leading to the mask, it's clear the airflow is stopping *completely* on exhalation (then resuming rapidly, pushing the valves on the mask and making the thump; I took video to confirm this). EPR is off. SmartStart is off. Ramp is off. I tried another mask and same thing. I'm mystified. On another message board a couple other people mentioned the same problem. One said his issue was his water chamber wasn't seated properly. I don't see how this could effect this issue, but I checked, and mine is definitely in there and doesn't move during breathing. I tried speaking with ResMed and they refuse to say if this is a known problem or not (or otherwise provide guidance). DME says I can send it in for a check since it's under warranty. This is a very lengthy process, however, and I'm only inclined to do so if there's a reasonable chance my next device won't do the same thing.
