Help please.....in the UK

Post by Nite nite » Mon Feb 28, 2022 11:40 am

Good afternoon new to this any help would be very much appreciated. Been diagnosed with osa 19.8 per hour still waiting to have my hospital appointment. I brought myself an air sense 10 auto machine struggling to get to the right pressures have noticed when I fully exhale there is a pause for a few seconds before I inhale again just wondering what that is all about many thanks

welcome to the zoo!

can't say for sure without seeing some data, but it's likely that you have to minimum pressure set too low.

you can gather some data to post here (in this thread) for peer review. the free software is available at-

https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

good luck!

download oscar and give us some data. not everyone goes through the sleep apnea journey the same way. need to see how your events break down. to know that, we need to see the data that oscar will provide.

good luck!

Plus one for Zonker's replies. Also, it is normal to pause a little between exhaling and inhaling. I think we mostly don't notice this, but using PAP can make us hyper-conscious about our breathing.

Given that you're a new user, please provide a redacted version of your sleep test so we have an idea of the apnea breakdown you experience.

Right now it's best to upload the picture of the sleep test report to an image hosting site (cpaptalk.com currently has a storage shortage)
I use https://imgpile.com/ myself. This hosting site auto generates a embed code like

Code: Select all

Copy and paste the embed code in a post in THIS thread so the experts don't have to hunt down your history.

The resident gurus will analyse and offer advice.

Get a SD card for the AutoSet if it did not come with one. 2GB to 32GB will do. If bigger than 32GB you will need to repartition and reformat.

BTW: An easy way to set the OSCAR graphs in the preferred order and format:

1. Go to View menu - Reset Graphs - Standard

2. Make sure Daily Sidebar is on. Toggled by F8 key. Or checkmarking it in the View menu.

3. Turn off Daily Calendar and Pie Chart. Toggled by F9 and F3, or remove check in View menu

4. Set Graph Height in File Menu -> Preferences -> Appearance Tab

On my setup, when set to 80, I get really squished up graphs.

At 192, the 5 graphs (flags, flow rate, pressure, leak, flow limit) are nicely spaced out.

At 160 I also get snores as the bottom graph.

Hi Zonker,

I think I’ve done this right. Here’s the data from last nights sleep.

Here’s the data from a sleep two weeks ago on 17/02 for comparison:

Thank you and let me know if you need anything else

Where are you located?

Do you have a copy of your original diagnostic sleep study report? If not...get it.
Home study I assume???

oh, darn it. i was hoping your chart would show me something dead easy to fix and that i could be a hero.

instead i see that both of your charts show a large number of clear airways. that's something that is beyond me.

so, let's wait patiently for the more knowledgeable folk to chime in, shall we?

OH! i know something i can ask. do you have epr turned on? if so, what level?

It appears from last night's report...EPR is on and at setting of 1.

It appears that on the 2 week ago report...EPR was off.

So I don't think that EPR is the culprit at least at this point. Still too many centrals/CAs even with EPR off.

Need to probably look at the other usual suspects first.
Sleep quality overall??? Many wake ups??? Medications???

From language used....need to know where OP is because it's likely somewhere NOT in the US and that of course opens a whole new can of worms. Possibly UK or Europe somewhere????

When is the appt with the hospital????

We can't do much about the central/CAs at this point.
What is critical to know is
1....were you even asleep when those CAs were flagged?
2....did you have any centrals show up on the sleep study?

England and the UK system typically does the home study first and then does the hospital over night study if the home study shows something weird going on.

If those are real asleep centrals/CAs on your reports and you had centrals without cpap during the home study then you have a problem that we can't fix with this current machine.

So....how much time awake with mask and machine on? Sleeping soundly for the most part or lots of wake ups??

Go here and watch the videos. May help with figuring out if those centrals are real asleep centrals or awake false positives.
