worst night yet on cpap

Post by sharon1965 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 5:43 pm

last night i woke up after only 2 hours, wide awake and irritated...my CL2 was full of condensation, my nose felt gross from the secaris gel i religiously apply every night before bed, my lips felt slimy from the chapstick i use because it seems to help me keep my mouth shut, i was too hot and in general i just felt like a big ball of goo...couldn't get back to sleep for what seemed like ages, woke up countless times thinking my interface was leaking, felt like it was pushing on one side of my nose more than the other, the strap was riding up on the back of my head...so weird, since i've been using the CL2 for a few weeks and feeling like it was pretty comfy...i guess bad nights just happen here and there, but i'd had a lousy weekend because of a bad fibromyalgia and sciatica flare up so i didn't even get to go watch my daughter perform on st. patrick's day cause i felt too crappy....wah wah wah ...and i'd actually been looking forward to hooking up and getting some sleep...felt like hell this morning when i got up for work...feel like i got hit by a truck...
there... thanks, i feel better!

Glad you feel better after venting....venting can be a good thing. We should have hooked up last night as I got up after a couple of hours with my stomach ready to burst from all the air I had swallowed...I looked like I was 8 months pregnant...not that I know how that feels being a man. We could have bitched and moaned together about how horrible our cpap life is. ....hope you have a better nights sleep tonight and awake tomorrow feeling like a million dollars....that's what I plan on doing.

I'm not sleepyhead, but my birthyear is 63! I take it Sharon that yours is 65, right? You look younger in your photo!!!!

As far as your night last night, I think you are correct in that one night things get odd. I've only been on CPAP for 5 days, and I feel strange hooking up about every other night. Also, when I wake up, I feel like there is an emergency of some sort.

Hopefully, tonight you'll get a good night's sleep from being tired. Last night, I woke up at 2:XX and didn't sleep well afterwards (not sure of the issue, but I was thinking CPAPA) and hope to sleep well tonight to being tired.

Take care Sharon. Relax a bit tonight and don't worry much, as your chapstick and secaris gel is good for your night!!!!

I walked out of my titration study in anger and frustration somewhere between 3 & 4 AM. I went back without an appt when the clinic opened-one of the sleep docs saw me within an hour she looked at the results of the titration study and gave me a script for La Machina. When I walked out of the clinic that morning I resolved that I would succeed. Have had problems to solve and other health issuess but I am much healthier and I know I can do what ever I need to do to make things work. It is more than CPAP-it that having succeeded at it has made me stronger-who would have thought at 65 I'd be thinking this-and a good thing too as I've gotten a couple new diagnoses to start working on. Too soon old-too late smart????

Yes thats my birthyear, hard to believe I'm 44 but can't worry about that your as young as you feel, right. I am new to all this only 2-3 weeks in and having a rough time but determined to hang in there. I have not had a full nights sleep yet, called my doctor today to drop down from 14, just too much pressure for me. Hope it helps.

yeah, i do feel better after venting...i've been on cpap 10 weeks now and that was only my 3rd or 4th really bad night...i've had some frustrations, but mainly because i needed to try different masks, so i guess it hasn't been too, too rough

thanks for empathizing with me though, folks, most people just can't relate and it feels good to know i'm not alone

Hi Sharon 1965, I read your post and guess what... I too had my worst night last night. Well not really last night but this morning. I've been experimenting with my humidifier trying to find the right setting. It goes from 1 - 5 Last night I tried 5 . Woke up this morning with a stuffy, runny nose and sneezing like mad. Found that my humidifier tray was bone dry.
I fill it every night before bed and there is usually a tiny bit of water left in the morning but it must have dried out with the setting at 5 and I was getting dry air. I'll go back to 4 tonight and see what happens.

By the way... I also use Secaris but not at night, usually in the morning.

What is a CL2 ???

Hope you have a better night tonight. Good luck

P/S Like your picture. I have a daughter just a little younger than you.

hi housecoatman (i love that name!)

sorry, the CL2 is the comfortlite 2 interface, which comes with a couple of different options ie: simple cushion, regular nasal pillows, direct seal ..i use the direct seal nasal pillows--so far the most comfortable one i've tried; i'm a side sleeper and this one has no straps on the face, everything is oriented to the forehead...i would like to try the Twilight NP, but it's not available through medigas where i get my supplies, but a lot of experienced people on this forum really dig it, so one day i might just pay out of pocket for it...i use the secaris at night to keep my nose moist while on the hose because i was having nosebleeds; i set my humidity between2-2.5-i have a lot of probs. with rainout no matter what interface i use but i've ordered a comfortsleeve, hope that helps; also just ordered the pur-sleep essential oils, maybe that would help you with the stuffy nose--haven't tried them yet but there are quite a few posts on here raving about them
best of luck!

thanks, i like your pic, too...i guess we both got help posting them! lol

Hi Sharon, I had a bad night last night too. I've been using the CL2 for 2-3 months with very few problems but last night I think it was possessed! Leaking and making noises. Nothing I did to it would make it stop so here I am early in the morning ticked off! LOL. I've been on cpap for almost 5 months and mostly have good nights now but last night...ARRRRRRRGH. There...got it out! I am sure tonight will be better.

Tim

isn't that wild? how odd that we had a rough night at the same time...i felt the same way, like my cl2 was possessed...i kept pulling it off my nose and going, "what the hell?"

last night was a much better night for me, hope it was for you, too

There must be some strange planet alignment or something! My ComfortGel was also posessed last night. I went to bed an hour early, and spent that entire hour trying to get a seal, where every other night it's not a problem. Woke up about 5 times to readjust. Felt like I never got a good seal. 13 nights on CPAP so far for me, mostly good sleep, but I had to fight back my road rage this morning! It does feel good to vent, and I'm grateful to this forum.

After almost a month of smooth sailing i've hit a bit of a rough spot. The last 3 nights its taken me at least 2 hours to fall asleep, then I wake up a bunch during the night. It's frustrating since things were going so well the last few weeks. Hopefully it will go back to normal tonight.
