Polyester part on the N30i Mask from Resmed,is it dangerous?

Post by Sara123 » Tue Feb 08, 2022 5:54 pm

Hi all
On the N30i mask from resdmed, there is a «quiet air vent »whith a small white polyester part.
Given the recall of the Philips because of the polyester foam,i am now worried that the resmed N30i polyester part might be toxic, anyone has any info on that please?
Thanks
Sara

I doubt it.

The quiet air vent exhausts Air+CO2, it is not a path for air to come into the system.

I thought the bad philips synthetic was a polyurethane.
Of course, there are dozens of different formulations within each class of polymer.
Some are even OK to use in surgically implantable parts--others are the weird crap
that philips used in their doomed machines.

To me it actually looks like the same as the filter that’s in your machine.

Thank you all for your thoughts.I have an airsense 10 resmed cpap.
I agree that the quiet air vent exhausts Air+CO2 but the fact that that small polyester piece is so close to my nose and the possibility of toxic emanations from the polyester makes me nervous.
And didn’t realise the filter was actually also polyester!I checked it out and it looks damaged and « swollen »,just ordered a new one.

Chunky frog, I just meant it looks like the same filter material that’s in most cpap units

Well, it shouldn't. there's a constant flow of air *away* from your nose.

Plus, there's absolutely no reason that you should even suspect that there's any "toxic emanations", of course, you can startle from every shadow and turn over every rock in case there's a snake... but really? is that reasonable?

So far, Resmed hasn't given us reasons to mistrust their decisions with respect to engineering quality decisions.
