That's all I saying: Consult your healthcare professional.
Do you propose that insulin-dependent diabetics call their healthcare professionals several times per day for advice on timing and adjusting their insulin dosage?

You are aware that these patients learn to adjust their insulin dosages on their own? You are aware that adjusting insulin dosage is much more dangerous than adjusting CPAP pressure?

Or is your brain stuck on "call your professional"?

Lurking here....
As a insulin-dependent I can say that my physician gives me the parameters within which I can adjust dosage. So, for myself, I am relying on my healthcare professional rather than someone (who claims no qualifications) on the internet.

Consulting your physician is good advice......but that's my take. I don't understand why you are so reluctant to agree with that.

Now, I suggest going back on topic.

(BTW, @LeonieX, I only wish that I had AHIs as good as you had posted. Wishing you well.

You can achieve AHIs that good if you take control of your CPAP therapy and quit relying on your doctor.

I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this thread. I did not mean to initiate so much conflict!

I know without seeing my reports you really can't give me proper advice. My question was more in general, regarding back sleeping. I had been told that side sleeping is best for sleep apnea so I can only assume that switching to back sleeping might be part of my problem.

I don't see any harm in increasing my max to 20 and experimenting a bit to see what happens. 😁
Don’t worry about the conflict. Folks like to argue over minutiae.

Side sleeping is best in general for reasons I don’t understand but others can explain in detail, but everyone is different. It is all about quality of sleep, not numbers. If you sleep well on your back, your AHI is reasonable, and you feel well rested, then that is what matters.
Sometimes it is the very people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one imagines

I don't have much time right now to answer all the questions individually, but I appreciate all of it…
...the support, the reality checks and the many things to consider.

I do want to clarify about my doctor's advice.
The doctor I referenced is awesome, but this is not his area of expertise as he is a PCP.
He is encouraging me to manage my sleep apnea in any way possible until my circumstances change and I can afford a proper sleep doctor and all that entails.
I am not being monitored since I am using an offline loaner machine.
I asked for his input and he was gracious enough to do so, but I'm not sure he went into any great depth with it.
My new stranger friends on the internet and informative youtube videos have been my greatest resources.
I don't know about posting more details, frankly I am a bit scared to

This experiment may not lead to much, but it begged to be done.
I will definitely be grateful for good numbers, even if they are a little less good than before.
If this does not get me back to where I was, I'm sure I'll try something else…
… like ignore the other doctor's advice to sleep on my back, and go back to my rightful place sleeping on my left side. :D

Even excellent sleep docs have a problem managing their patients' therapy. The smart patient can look at his nightly results as often as necessary. He can do this in great detail using OSCAR and find optimal settings. No doctor has this possibility. For the doubters, you might want to look at the current thread by JJ where he is figuring out that he can find better settings than prescribed. ---> https://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t184 ... are-1.html

There are literally thousands of members who came here and optimized their settings away from the prescribed settings. That's what people do here.

Actually my "sleep doctor" does review my OSCAR reports. I decide when that is necessary (e,g. if I see a concerning trend). Then we (the doctor and I) decide if changes are appropriate.
