DS1 turn off SEND DATA

Post by KrisCrossed » Sat Oct 30, 2021 1:17 pm

My husband has a DS1 and received a DS2 as a replacement. I'm new to CPAP and just started on a DS2. Had I known about OSCAR, I would have pushed for a Resmed, but....

I would like to use his DS1 for getting some OSCAR data as my therapy 3 months along has given me a bit of relief but is still awful with AHI average of 7.6 but varies widely day-to-day. How do I turn off the feature that sends this data to his doc? Airplane mode? Some factory reset function? Do I need to find the modem and rip it out?

Also curious, related to the recall/replacement, what happens if the DS1 isn't shipped back to Philips?

Time will tell. They may be so rattled that they will never know.

If airplane mode is used, how will DME/provider obtain compliance data so the insurance company will pay:?:

Your husband received a DS2 as a replacement for the DS1. Is he now using the DS2 and the DS1 is 'semi-retired' and not being used? If he changed over to the DS2, when it was powered on his DreamMapper account may have switched over to the DS2 data and removed the DS1, thus the only data that gets uploaded via a cellular modem is the data from the DS2. The DS1 has been disabled in the DreamMapper host software. I added my DS1 as a secondary machine when I received my DS2, but the cellular connection did not work. The Bluetooth DreamMapper app in a tablet however did upload the DS1 data as a secondary device. I've hence removed the DS1 from the account. If you go into his DreamMapper account to 'Settings>Account>Edit' you should a screen like below. Only his DS2 should be listed as the primary device and that should be the only machine the DreamMapper host should access.

Alternatively pulling the cellular modem module out of the left side of the Dreamstation would surely disable any data uploads

I sent my DS1 back since I could use it through the DreamMapper app easily with the Bluetooth app and I seldom if ever used OSCAR. My sent back DS1 will supposedly go into a pool of unit to be refurbished and sent as a replacement to someone who needs one. I've found the DS2 to be a decent replacement for the DS1 (despite some opinions here) and my AHI numbers are lower (typically less than 1.0).
Not sure of any implications if the machine is not sent back.

Thanks for all the helpful replies! I'll give airplane mode a try to start. I'm not too concerned about insurance compliance since I had to buy the DS2 outright to get one. I've only missed one day in 3 months (power outage) and regularly use it for about 7 hours a night. Missing a night as I change settings and get data probably won't be an issue. I think having some insight into my sleep patterns could be important.

Because most of my events are Centrals & Hypopneas, I've been put in the queue for a titration study. My initial study was the WatchPat because Philips had the recall just prior to my scheduled in-clinic test and the clinic uses PR equipment. I've been told there are 300 people ahead of me and the in-clinic studies will resume next week. I could be using the DS2 for quite a while.

I'm not on any meds but I have some heart issues that are being investigated. I'll try to get some data to post soon.

@Grump48, the old DS1 was never on DreamMapper but used the modem to send data to Care Orchestrator. The new DS2 is on DreamMapper and also sending data to Care Orchestrator. Are these duplicate processes? I thought they might be completely separate (one for home use, the other for professional). How does a machine actually get taken off an account? For example, when a used machine is sold, does it continue to send data under the original person's name?

DreamMapper and CareOrchestrator are kinda one and the same.

"How does DreamMapper Work
DreamMapper works in conjunction with your homecare provider software called CareOrchestrator. Your homecare provider must make a connection to your current account with your email address and serial number for your device which is a 13-digit number on the bottom of the device starting with P or J so you can receive data in DreamMapper."

https://www.usa.philips.com/c-e/hs/slee ... apper.html

I suspect, but not 100% sure that if your husbands DreamMapper app shows only the serial number of the new DS2, that the Orchestrator data is now registered to only the DS2 and the DS1 was disabled when he started using the DS2.

In the manual under settings for 'My Setup', it explains the modem can be turned ON or OFF.
"Allows you to turn modem off temporarily or turn it back on. When modem
is turned off, it will automatically turn on again after 3 days. Only displays when
modem is installed."

Also the Bluetooth can be disabled as well which could conceivably send data out.
"Allows you to turn Bluetooth off and on. Also, it allows you to clear the pairing
with a compatible Bluetooth device."

To be totally sure the DS1 doesn't call home the cellular modem module can be removed. This Youtube vid shows installing the modem. Just reverse the procedure and pull the module out to remove.
