New CPAP user here...sleep quality improved, but feeling groggy in AM

Post by Friartuck » Thu Oct 28, 2021 7:43 am

Good morning,

As the title states I'm new to the CPAP world, and received my machine about 3 weeks ago. First week I didn't really give it much use, but after that I've used it every night consistently. I must say that my quality of sleep has gone up significantly, but I'm finding it harder to get out of bed in the morning. I used to pop out of the bed with no issue, but apart of me thinks that's because I was partly awake anyway. Is this groggy feeling normal? Is my body adjusting to a more consistent sleep pattern? With that said I do feel refreshed after shaking off the cobwebs, and my dreams have been the most vivid they've been in years.

Thanks guys for any insight you can provide.

-cheers

Hi, what model of which machine do you have please? And which mask? Do you know what your machine's pressure settings are?

Do you have a copy of your test results to post here (same thread for everything please) after blocking personal info?

Are you on meds for anything?

I'm using the AirSense 10 by resmed, with the Airfit F20 full face mask. Initial pressure starts at 7, and ramps up to 15 when I fall asleep.I do not have a copy of my test results although my doctor informed me that I was experiencing 40 apneas per hour. No medication of any kind.

Do you know how to read your AHI and leak values off the machine display? Do you plan on using OSCAR? Good data is required for good advice.

Yep. I know how to read AHI and leak values, but I have no idea what OSCAR is. I am registered in "MyAir" on the Resmed website, which compiles and stores all my data. I'm guessing that's similar to Oscar?

MyAir and OSCAR are as different as butter vs. big-rigs. Not even on the same planet.

OSCAR provides breath-by-breath detailed data which the experts will need in order to make meaningful recommendations. Recommend downloading it and posting a set of charts here (same thread please) for the experts to see. You will need to do some homework; at the top of the CPAPtalk homepage, you will see a link for Newbies. Go there and read everything. This will take some effort on your part but is very worthwhile.

And incidentally, there are four models of the AirSense 10, and it will be important to know which you have.

first and foremost, welcome to the zoo!

no. oscar will give us much more detail myair ever could. we consider myair to be a toy. it's only purpose is to give you smiley faces, gold stars or attaboys.

with oscar, forum members can see exactly what is going on in your sleep, literally minute by minute.

good luck!

Thank you very much. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I don't know which Airsense 10 I have...Lol I assumed there was only one, so I'll have to do some research to find out. I will also download Oscar and start to implement it. I also find it kind of odd that the technician didn't mention Oscar, being that it is a more comprehensive way to track my patterns.

Research? Just look at the nameplate on the front of the machine.

you have just discovered, like so many of us before you, that they simply don't care. the vast majority of techs and sleep docs feel that by issuing you the machine, that's all they need to do.

but as you are about to find out, there's much more to it.

but no worries because the forum can help you just as they helped me.

It’ll be good to see an Oscar chart, but it sounds as though you might be working off a sleep deficit—catching up after a lot of lousy sleep.
