bridge of nose sore

Post by Sudsy » Sun Mar 18, 2007 12:58 pm

Hello

I am a newbie here and only been on a c-pap machine for a little over a week.

I have a full face mask with pressure set at 10 and if i want to use the ramp i could and gradually get to 10.

My question is how can you stop the bridge of your nose from being sore?

I have adjusted the mask a million times to see if that was the problem but nothing seems to work. If it is too loose it leaks and well you know if it is too tight it hurts. When i put the mask on first it is not bad, but when i wake up the bridge of my nose is red and sore.

Is this something that everyone goes thru and just gets use to it?

There is no mask outline on my face when i wake up except for the bridge.

Any suggestion would be great.

Bridge of nose sore

Welcome to the Hosehead club.
I see you have the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask. If you will look above the exhale holes at the front top of the mask part, you will see a button on the forehead support. If you push that button you can adjust the forehead pad. If you have too much pressure on the bridge of your nose adjust the forehead pad to push against your head with more pressure. This will relieve the pressure on the bridge of your nose. Also, loosen the top straps as much as you can without getting leaks. Adjust your mask while lying down with your machine turned on.

Good luck with your treatment. You may also want to have a mask that does not rest there for a while to let it heal. I suggest you have a couple masks on hand to use different ones on different nights.
If all else fails, you can put moleskin on the mask were it presses to pad it some.

Take care, persistence will pay big dividends.

I put a little bandaid on my nose. I tried nexcare but it is hard to get off in the morning. It's hard to get it just right so it is tight enough to prevent leaks but loose enough to not cause sores. hang in there.

I use Bandaid Blister Ampoules or Curad Gel Strips (may not really be the name--so look in the bandaid aisle) They are related to Duoderm which-I think-requires a script. Use on intact skin after cleaning area-leave it on until it comes off itself or is loose around the edges. They are great over intact blisters. If you see fluid under the gel bandaid or redness of the area remove it and clean the skin-if the skin is broken or red do not replace the gel bandaid-switch to some triple antibiotic ointment (if not allergic) and regular bandaids.

I'm new also, and have had the same trouble as you with my nose. I have found that if I take a cheap 3/4 inch bandaid (one without any tape extending along the sides of the pad) and cut all but 1/8 inch off the ends, it will stay in place but be easy to remove in the morning. I don't have any problems with this sealing, and no marks at all in the morning. Good luck to you!

I'm new also!!! I was smiling when I went to the board this AM and saw this post. I've only had my mask on 3 nights and this AM I had a red bridge like the rest of the newbies!!! I'm going to try the thick band aide option that tangents suggested tonight.

This board is wonderful. After reading the board, I've set my auto to run pressures between 7-10 cm and with CFLEX on it works wonderfully. I also learned how to adjust my humidifier, which has helped. The biggest bonus was to learn how to monitor my treatment! This is a great board with wonderful people. Without this resource, I would've probably tossed the machine in the junk !!!!!

When I was using the UMFF, I had some success containing the sore on the bridge of the nose using bandaid but it led to another problem. I experienced more leaks in that area and it dried out my eyes really bad.

I've now been using the Hybrid. All the above-mentioned problems have been resolved and I've been compliant with the CPAP therapy.

Cheers!

Great temporary cures for soreness of nose bridge areas, But I feel that only conceals the problem, its not the material of the mask causing the problem, its the pressure cutting off the circulation of blood to the area causing the soreness and eventually creating a painful sore. example if you are using a gel mask what could be softer, yet still creates soreness, fit is the only real solution, use bandaids what ever, but work on the fit, if not able, try other masks,or adjust the forehead piece to take pressure off the nose, keeping this treatment simple and comfortable, that should be our goal. By the way still looking for the perfect mask.

Well, I can't use the UMFF because, in addition to the bridge of nose attack. it tries to dislocate my jaw.

If the bridge of my nose gets sore from the Activa or the CL2/Simple Cushion, I switch to either my CL2/Nasal Pillows or my Hybrid/Nasal Pillows.

If my nose gets too sore from the nasal pillows, I switch back.

If I don't want to tape my mouth, I use the Hybrid.

I did well last night with the CL2/Nasal Pillows/Durapore tape. Therefore,
I'll use the CL2 again tonight.

Life is full of choices....

Ed, thanks for pointing this out. I will give this a go tonight for my mask, I think it's a great idea. I do remember fussing with the forehead piece and realize I may have it cranked down to much!!!
