Sinus and eyepain - any ideas?

Post by Andréa » Tue Sep 21, 2021 12:12 pm

Hi!

I’ve been using my apap for 9 months now. Started vid nose pillow mask but got som much pain in my eyes and sinuses, and felt totally run over the following mornin, so I had to switch to a full face mask. Think I’ve tried them all but finally I found a match in the F30i - fits like a glove. But, I still can’t tolerate any air up my nose so I have to tape my nostrils closed.

My experienced and amazing sleep tech has worked with OAS patients for 30 yrs but has never heard of or had a patient getting totally exhausted and with pain in sinuses and eyes. So oc I don’t only have severe SA but also some unheard of shit 😅. I have Hypermobility syndrome which means that my collagen aren’t working as most peoples’. My own hypothesis is that my canals leading from my nose to my sinuses and tear ducts etc. get ”blown up”, strained and sore from the preassure, and not being able to stay as constricted as they normally should, letting the air flow go bananas in my sinuses instead of nicely just down my throat.

Have you ever heard of this issue, and if so, a solution?

Is’s very hard taping my nose every night just breathing through my mouth. I constantly wake up from the pain of the Sahara desert taking over my mouth. Can’t see that it’s good gor my teeth either.

ENT has looked up my nose and said it was totally fine. And it’s not a mask leakage issue. Mask fits perfectly and I sleep with an serious eye mask. It’s an internal issu. I also belive I’ve tried every machine setting possible. With and without humidifyer, heat, epr, ramp, you name it.

Searched all over for answers but seems I’m the only one…

See an eye doctor.
It's probably not that, but at least you can rule eye trouble out--
and concentrate on other problems.

Never heard of anyone taping their nose, let alone only mouth breathing, whatever mask you have... somehow I think your ENT needs to address your sinus problems better... unless someone else here knows more.

I have Hypermobility syndrome which means that my collagen aren’t working as most peoples’. Given that your experience is uncommon, perhaps you would be helped by an unconventional approach. While you likely have a doctor familiar with your hypermobility syndrome, do you go to a medical professional or clinic that specializes in treatment of this condition? Experts who work almost exclusively with the conditional might have some management techniques that they can try. For example, I found a conference presentation by Alan Pocinki, MD, George Washington University EDNF Center, 2014 that talks about customizing treatment plans that include pharmaceutical & lifestyle protocols for CPAP success in EDS patients. A further stretch of the imagination includes talking to an anesthesiologist. These doctors train in how to stabilize the airways of patients with hypermobility syndromes during surgery. While their techniques span a day, maybe they'd have some ideas that they could discuss with your physician, too, that could give you some help on a daily basis. Links to these two references are below.

I hope you find answers!

I agree; you need a better work-up by an ENT. Looking up your nose isn't going to help with investigating problems in your sinuses. I also hope you find an ENT who has some curiosity about possible connections with the hypermobility syndrome, because connective tissues in your head could conceivably be implicated. You have an important datum for an interested doctor: the problems go away when you tape your nose.

In the meantime, for the mouth dryness, you could try Xylimelts.

You might have sinusitis / sinus infection. That can cause pain in cheeks, nose, forehead, eyes and maybe ears. So you can breathe out of your nose just fine? Have you have an allergy test by an immunologist? Any allergies in your house? Check for mold, use a bagged vacuum. Maybe to much or too little humidity on your humidifier? You definitely want to utilizes nasal breathing and get that problem fixed. Did you ever have nasal surgery? Usually the only nasal issues people have is a hard time breathe through the nose only usually due to swelling or mucus from inflammation. Might need to get a scan of your sinus cavities. Try some nasal rinses with Nelimed or Xclear.
