Re: Philips Respironics Recall V2.0 Questions and Answers
My first machine was a PR System One bipap. I used it for over 7 years before it was replaced with a DS1 bipap. Both of these machines were registered with Philips when new and both have been registered with Philips for the recall and both have been confirmed by Philips as being among the recalled machines.Petrodon wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 12:12 pmHere is a question. I have a PR System One. Does anyone know what they are doing for these?
I know the DS1 is being replaced by the DS2. Does anyone have a PR System One and have they done anything for you and/or contacted you (or really ANYTHING)? I saw Nicko on Youtube literally had to pull his apart completely to get at the foam. What do they expect us to do with these?
I'm still up in the air as far as what Philips is going to do about these. I did personally speak with a Philips rep and she informed me that both of my machines will be repaired/replaced/refurbished at some point in the future...

Re: Philips Respironics Recall V2.0 Questions and Answers
I see a lot of posts talking about getting bits of foam or not and assuming if you don't get bits of foam there are no issues, but that may not be true. The foam, may be off-gassing carcinogenic chemicals that are invisible and undetectable, but may lead to serious health issues in the future. The challenge with this is that if we end up with lung cancer 10 years from now, there is no way to know what caused it unless there is a high and common rate of occurrence. Lets pray that doesn't happen!

People worry about the wrong things.Release of volatile organic compounds (VOC) including Dimethyl diazene and Phenol. Evidence suggests these gases dissipate after 24 hours from first ‘out of box’ use.

Re: Philips Respironics Recall V2.0 Questions and Answers
Here is how I look at things.
There is risk in everything we do. There is a risk with everything we buy, use and own.
There is risk in every drug, prescription, and supplements we take, in every bite of food we eat.
So I look up the risk and figure out as many ways I can lower the risks.
I believe a good rule of thumb with prescription drugs and supplements is, first ask the Dr. for the best OLD drug treatment, not the newest one, as the old one has a track record a history of known side effects, the new ones don’t. You can look this stuff up.
When I get a new prescription I read about the side effects and watch out for them.
Over the past 30 years, I have got a large list of things that make me sick and there are a lot of prescription drugs and supplements on that list.
Along with Basil nuts, vinegar, tomatoes, pastoralized milk (I can eat raw milk…), and a number of other things.
Man, it is surprising how many products contain vinegar. And also Corn Syrup, companies LOVE corn syrup as a sweetener, it is in everything.
We live in a world of Trial and Error, we try something, and if it fails we fix it by trying something else, and if it fails we try again and again until we get it right. If it kills enough we recall it, remove it from the market, consider how many things the FDA has to recall over the past 50 years…
I learned by trial and error that big fat tires can make a car and truck feel mussy, with soft handling, and that these tires can be very dangerous in a blowout, they flop all over the place.
So I now convert all my tires and wheels to larger wheels and smaller tires, and the cars and truck handle MUCH better and in a blow out these tires are kind of like run-flat tires and are much more controllable with a blowout flat even at 80MPH..and I had a front tire blow out at that speed with my van running 18-inch rims and 4-inch tall tire and it was a very mild drive to the side of the road to stop to change it, VS a blowout years ago with a stock size tire…OMG we nearly flipped on that one.
So I learn the risk and take any action I can.
Every prescription drug has side effects, in my case, a few have sent me to the emergency room for life-saving treatments, every operation carries some risk, many can kill if something goes wrong, I have had three endoscopic exams, one mistake and I could die on the operating table.
I go to the same Dr. as he has not messed up..so far.
CAT Scans are Heavy Duty XRAYS, they don't tell you that, you can get 10X the dosage of a normal Xrays with one, and you really do not want many.
In 2013 I got a quad Bypass, a dangerous operation, I survived because I had good Doctors, yet my sternum is still not 100% healed and hurts every so often.
I have yet to find a real good sleep Doctor, so I self-treat. There is no one I have found has any real understanding of how these sleep machines work. Especially an ASV machine...they have only three repair instructions in the repair manuals, replace the fan, replace the mainboard, replace the bad seal.
These machines can go 20,000+ hours, but ResMed even if the machine is still working fine will flash a warning at around 20K that the machine is past its service life. At my rate that is around 7 years.
Phillips is trying to tell us 5 years is the end of service life, and Medicare will replace your machine at 5 years.
Trying to find a cause of my Chronic Fatigue I have seen about 20 Doctors not one was any good, not one helped me. One or two said they cannot help me, the rest tried to treat me under their specially and FAILED and three nearly killed me...
Go to a Doctor with a life-threatening problem and they will move heaven and earth to save you.
AND they are very good at saving you, BUT go to them with a small thing like Chronic Fatigue, or a mild pain and they are hard-pressed to be any help. They can keep you alive, but ask them to give you quality of life, energy to enjoy, they are not any help. Not in their sandbox.
I live in Phoenix AZ, in the southwest, (west Texas, N.M. southern CA also) we have an illness here called Valley Fever, it is a fungus infection, and very much like the Corvid: 70 to 80% of us get it, and never know we got it. Another 10% get a mild cold-like illness lasting one or two weeks and almost never have any problem ever again. But 10% can get very sick and some like 2 to 5% can die.
I am very much aware of many of the dangers we face, and there are a lot more...
In my early life (16 in 1964) I worked as an automotive repairman, Lord there is so much dangerous stuff, asbestos in brake lining and we blew the dust off with an air gun, gasoline, oil, cleaning chemicals, etc.
Then I worked as an A/C and heating repairman, I used a welding torch, released Freon into the air (1970s), and used a leak detector that we were warned that the gasses produced by the flame as it was burning the Freon in a Helotouch was deadly.
Then I worked as a TV repairman were other that the dust collected inside the TVs ozone was the only risk, well electrocution by the High Voltage system…
Lastly, I have spent the past 40+ years as a TV and Movie prop maker. I worked with casting polyurethanes, fiberglass resin, Bondo, every kind of paint, every kind of paint thinner, every kind of plastic, every kind of glues, and lastly a number of metals, I machined aluminum, brass, steel, and cast melted at 600 to 700 Degrees Pewter.
As yet I am not only alive at 73, I am in good health as per my last complete examination three months ago, in fact in many ways I am better than I was 20 years ago.
AND We are still in a pandemic, this is very scary, was it a simple mistake that gave us this virus, was it just nature doing its thing, or was it a part of a germ warfare work by China?? We may never really know.
We got masks and gloves and sanitizer and used them everywhere we went, for all last year. We watched the reports on how it was transmitted. I watch world reports on how nations handled it and what happened with all of them.
When the new vaccines came out I watch the WORLD again on how they worked, and where they were not used. We then felt that the records WORLD WIDE showed which ones work and how safe they were, (98% safe) YES some people died, some got sick BUT 98% did not. So we got the two shots.
AND we still wear masks and still use sanitizer as there is now the Delta version of the virus, mainly due to so many people not doing as we did, not wearing masks not washing their hands not getting the vaccine, and are thus are getting sick and giving to others…
Here we may go again…the numbers are going up again…people will not see the risks and we are not taking good actions.
The reports specially stated the outgassing risk in our sleep machines are the first night, (This is true of all machines..)when you could still spell the new plastic smell, once that is gone it is a lot safer.
And realize: ALL Plastics out gas, almost everything outgasses, even wood, IF you can smell it you're smelling its outgassing.

One of my best lines is: "LIFE...No one gets out alive!!"
Also, I wish to point out to all the "I never buy a Phillips machine ever again..."
If you look at nearly every company, any that have been around for say 75 years, Like Ford, Chevy, Dodge, every car maker made death traps in the 50s, 60s, and 70s...things slowly got better...
Doctors did not even wash their hands in the 1800s...
Jack in the Box had a bunch of people die from tainted hamburgers in the 90s, and how many other companies have had such problems.
And How many Medicinals have been recalled because people died??
And how many have been recalled because they might cause cancer.
