Newbie Missing Data Last Night

Post by PopIsGettingGrumpy » Sun Aug 22, 2021 8:04 am

I believe we are missing hours of data for my father last night. We watched a movie around 8pm, then he got ready for bed, put his mask on and I saw him with it on for at least a few hours. Strangely, this morning there is pretty much no data from the time he went to bed. Does the data below help shed any light on this? There is the session for the movie, then a slight break, then only minutes of data once he went to bed. No power outage as I was up for hours making sure his mask was on. I zoomed in on the portion of the night showing the movie and where the bedtime data just stops. Any ideas of what went wrong? We turned the "ramp up" setting to "off" last night before bed, but that was our only change.

Can you scroll down on the left/statistics side and grab a screen shot of the Sessions section?

Also grab a screen shot of the detailed report without zooming in on anything?

Is SmartStart turned on or off?

Absolutely... let me know if this is what you need or if I missed anything:

SmartStart is off. He has to hit "start" when he wants the machine to begin pushing air.

Either he turned the machine off and doesn't remember it or perhaps there is/was a loose connecting where the power cord plugs into the back of the machine and things got jostled a bit and there was an interruption of the power supply.
That plug in in the back of the machine is known to be a sometimes cause for power interruption if it is even a tiny bit loose.
Make sure it is plugged in solidly and not the least little bit loose.

Very much appreciated. He did move the machine from the living room to the bedroom, so while it was on when he went to bed, that's possible. Still seems odd that he was able to turn it back on this morning without noticing. In any case, I'll be sure to double check all power cord connections when he uses the machine, and I guess I'll need to sneak in at night and make sure it's still logging as well.

I suspect that when the machine was moved from the living room to the bedroom that back connection at the machine became loose and when that happens the tiniest amount of movement can interrupt the power flow.
I have seen that happen with my own machine if I happen to scoot it around on the table.
Usually there is a message about the connection showing on the LCD screen but your dad probably didn't see it.
It's not something that is easy to see unless you are facing the machine's LCD screen and actually looking.
Also doesn't take much movement to re-engage the machine but with SmartStart being off...just breathing into the mask won't start it up again.

I suggest turning SmartStart on...that way if the machine turns itself off either from big leak or power interruption...as soon as the leak is fixed or loose plug gets reattached...the machine will just come back on once it senses breathing.

Now if this problem continues and you know that you have the connection solid...notify the DME.
It wouldn't be totally impossible for there to be a bad connection.

Looking further... I'm starting to believe that he hit the stop button. I remember seeing the green power button light last night so I assumed it was on, but testing further, the green light comes on when you hit stop. I also just now tried disconnecting the power while it was on start, and as soon as I reconnected the machine it resumed pushing air by itself so I think a power glitch would have logged differently. **edited to add** I tested it multiple times and our machine will restart automatically if the power is interrupted, but SmartStart is definitely "off".

One thing I also noticed, the machine does send some air through even when we hit stop. A small amount, but there is definitely still some airflow through the tube. Is that normal? If so, I can see how my father may have thought the machine was still running, although exhaling into the tube once you hit stop feels noticeably different. Is that normal for when the machine is powered on but you hit stop - with still a small bit of air flow coming out of the tube?

Normal. It's called the "cool down period"...it is mentioned in the manual.
The machine continues to blow air at a low level for about 30 minutes after we push the stop button or the machine stops on its own when SmartStart is engaged (takes about 10 seconds for the machine to realize a human isn't attached and it turns off).
It does it by design to help dry out any moisture in the hose or mask.
This is entirely normal.

Much appreciated. Who knew just making sure he was using the machine properly throughout the night would be so tricky. I feel like I'm constantly stalking him in the middle of the night. By the time we get him fixed up I'm going to need a sleep study of my own from lack of sleep.
