Airflow feels dry even with heated hose and mouth closed

Post by Matt00926 » Thu Aug 19, 2021 6:50 am

While awake using a ResMed AirCurve 10 ST with the heated hose, both hose temp and climate control set to auto, even with my mouth purposely closed the air feels so dry and kind of warm. This is with a room temp somewhere around 68 - 72*F depending on what time of year it is.

Is there an easy fix for this? Just weird to have it feel so dry and stuffy even while awake, with my mouth shut.

There are 2 main reasons for using a heated hose...primary reason is to help prevent condensation (rain out) in the hose or mask....second is just simply patient comfort because some people don't like the cooler room air going up their nose.

The "auto" setting for hose air temp and even humidity doesn't always work out so great for some people for various reasons.
The "auto" setting for humidity amounts to around 4 when compared to a manual setting...sort of middle of the road since the selection choices can go up to 8.

Hose air temp doesn't really affect the amount of added moisture to be delivered from the humidifier. It may affect how the air feels but doesn't really affect the actual amount of moisture in the air.

I would suggest changing over to manual for both humidity and hose air temp. Try more humidity(setting of 5 or 6 maybe) and for hose air use whatever feels good....experiment with hose air temps and if you get rain out you know you need more heated air.
I like cooler air in the summer but I need warmer air in the winter because bedroom temps get a lot lower. I adjust the hose air temps according to what feels good to me and keeps condensation away.

Heated hoses don't help dry throat. They allow more humidity without the water condensing in the hose.

If you're still feeling too dry, turn off Auto on your humidifier. Set the humidity to 5, and try that a few days. With a room temperature of 68-72, you likely won't need a heated hose, turn it off. If you get condensation in the tube, turn the heated hose on, set to 74-76 and keep increasing it until you consistently don't get any condensation (rainout).

I see you have been on the forum since 2015.
Is the dry throat new?
I might check with your doctor, as it could be something else.
