Help please I'd appreciate it

Post by cpapuser2020 » Thu Aug 19, 2021 4:40 am

Hello,

I just barely heard of the recall and my device was affected. I don't have insurance anymore but can probably buy a new one. I don't know what type my machine is. It's a dreamstation but don't know if it's auto cpap or bipap. I have my humidifier at 1 and mt pressure is fixed at 6. Can't change the pressure. But I like it at 6. My questions are:

How can I find out if my machine is auto cpap or bipap?

Does registering my device to the recall website get me a new machine in a year?

Can I buy an unaffected machine similar to this that can have the pressures at 6 without insurance?

I'm just a bit scared. I'm 24 and get nervous. I'm sorry if my questions are stupid. Just need some help. I lookee through the faq but my didn't see something similar to what I'm asking.

Highly unlikely that you will be using a bipap with a fixed pressure of 6 but lets figure out exactly what kind of machine just to be sure.
Look on the bottom of the blower unit (not the humidifier) for a model number
It should begin with DSX and have 3 digits and maybe 2 or 3 letters. We need those 3 digits.
DSX 200 or 400 or 500...which is it.

You can purchase a machine without insurance....either from one of the places that sells cpaps or privately.
Online places will require a prescription though....do you have a copy of your RX stating you need cpap?
If not...do you have a regular family doctor who could write a RX for you?

Thank you so much for responding! I appreciate it!

It says DSX500H11C

Oh man, really all online places require an RX?

I don't have a copy a that. I don't have insurance at the moment been difficult lately.

What places sell cpap without cpap? Privately? Do you have any idea where I can go about that? My sleep study was very difficult I really can't go through other one. It took me a while to barely get enough sleep for the study. I'm sorry if I'm being a pest just very stressed out.

You think this is a good option to get a prescription?

What about calling the sleep facility that did your study or the DME that supplied your machine? You might be able to get a copy of the Rx that way.

You can also ask the sleep center for a copy of your medical records. It's a law that they have to provide them to patients asking for them.

There are some other ideas, but that is what I would do first.

Do you know of a model similar to this one? That is not affected by the recall?

secondwindcpap.com has this on its web site:

"If you are unable to purchase a replacement CPAP or BIPAP machine because you have lost track of your prescription, have an out of date prescription, or 'pre-existing' clause in your policy, we may be able to help with our physician authorization."

I agree with others that you should be able to get a copy of your prescription from the sleep clinic, but keep secondwind in mind if you run into trouble.

Also worth knowing: any MD can write a prescription for a PAP machine, as can a licensed nurse practitioner or a dentist.
