Boiling stuff, part 3(?)

So, after a snarky comment by someone, and the subject of the mixed plastics of the P10 cushions coming up again, I decided to revisit this topic again and here's what I found:

I took three somewhat grungy P10 pillows of my brothers, (don't embarrass yourself by making any snarky comments about the condition of them): then I dumped them into 'not dinner',

Lest anyone accuse me of not giving 'em the heat:
After six minutes or so of steamy action:
Continued, aaaagain.

So, to me, they look clearer, and cleaner, maybe not factory fresh.

All I did was fish the hot little things out of the pan, rinse them off in cool water, and shake the water of, no rubbing, no soap, no nothin.

Do they fit? did they melt?
Snapped onto a frame perfectly, doesn't seem to have done any damage at all.

I used about 3 cups of water and a couple tablespoons of baking soda. Was that the 'right' recipe? Probably not, and certainly wasn't what was used in the previous thread. I left them in for about 6 minutes, fighting the bubbles that boiling an alkaline solution tends to cause.

Will boiling your P10 pillows hurt them? I'm going to say "no" based on this experiment. Will it help? maybe.

Polycarbonate melts at around 450 degrees F.
Lower melting points apply to some plastics more capable of VOC emissions.
Resmed, not likely.
Now try that with respironics pillows . . .
Wait! No, I don't want you to gum up a nice kettle.
When I did the boil, I had to start with distilled water,
because our city water left a powdery lime residue.

It might have been better with distilled, I just used tap water, which isn't terrible, but certainly not distilled.

Our tap water has a hardness rating of 13 grains, enough to kill toilets and water heaters.
We had a Bunn coffeemaker that barely lasted a year--total waste of money.
Is the calcium nutritional? Nobody's talking.

Looks to me like they cleaned up beautifully, without becoming misshapen or damaged in any way. Good job!
