locked out of air pressure settings?

Post by rubystandingdeer » Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:36 am

The air pressure is too high and I asked the person who uses remote to lower it and they made it worse! I could not wear the ResMed 10 last night. I risk getting Severe, and i do mean severe morning migraines if I do not, but I could not keep it on after she "readjusted" the bloody thing. IS there a way I can adjust it? I appear to be locked out and can no way to reset it. Super frustrated!

https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdf

Manual above explains how to get into the clinical setup menu area where you can change the pressure.

page 14...just a matter of a little combination of button pushing.

FOUND it and was able to lower the max from 9 to 8. The minimum is set at 4. By lowering the max, does this also lower the pressure when I sleep?

Thank You, thank You for ur help! :D :D

Yes, lowering the max is going to affect treatment during sleep but the max setting isn't your problem.

Your problem exhaling is your minimum 4 pressure setting.

Try an experiment while awake.
Go into the setup menu area again.
Turn EPR on to "full time"
Set EPR to 2
Set minimum pressure to 6
Set max to whatever because max doesn't matter while awake.

Try those settings and see if you can exhale easier.

Also tell us which mask you are using during this experiment...I know you have several.

Thanks for your help Pugsy. I am now using a n20, but still having issues with exhaling at min set at 6.
Also, it has not helped my severe morning migraine caused by apnea. It has been 3 1/2 weeks since I have been on this thing. I manage to keep it on tween 3-5 hrs a nite before I wake realising I cannot breath and take it off. I have yet to see any improvement :(

How long before seeing improvement?

Your 3-5 hours is not enough.
Start counting once you are able to use cpap for the entire night.
It is also likely the low pressures you are using are not preventing apneas at all.
Once you allow yourself to use THERAPEUTIC pressures, it should happen quickly.
The force needed to exhale is not as much as you think it is.
It is less than that enjoyed by a dog with his head out the car window.
Channel your inner hound and enjoy the breeze.

did you set epr as she suggested? if so, you may want to increase the epr from the 2 she advised to 3 and try that.

good luck!

oh and as chunky says, need a full night's sleep and even with that,it's going to take awhile. we are each of us different and the variation between all of us makes it impossible to pinpoint when.

BUT you can do this. please stick with it.

good luck!

Will need to increase the minimum to 7 if she wants to try EPR at 3 while awake.
With minimum at 6 EPR can't go below 4 cm anyway...so even at 3 EPR she will only get 2 cm drop.

3 to 5 hours of sleep...simply not enough sleep. Won't ever feel any better with that little of sleep.
If she can't exhale with 6/4 or 7/4 (with EPR at 3) then she needs to be talking to her doctor about her lungs as well as lack of sleep.

I cannot find a way to set the EPR. All it says is on and off. It is a resmed 10

Yes, I am a dummy. learning on the fly. So is it the air pressure that sets the EPR?
[/quote]

you aren't a dummy. nobody is born knowing this stuff! :D

it's not the pressure that sets it. pugsy is telling you (and me) that your pressure needs to be higher in order for the epr to do any good.

go here and get the CLINICIAN manual. when you get that, you'll see how settings on your machine work.

I had to call the clinic and ask them to do it. Apparently, Kaiser controls that part. But I am doing better with the thing. I still cannot sleep much past 4 hours, but at least i can now exhale.

it's good that you are at least improving.

but it would really behoove you to take control of your own therapy. i do and all of the veterans here do as well. it's your health and well being. it may seem daunting at first but it becomes second nature after awhile.

you can do this.

we can help.

Kaiser patient here. If you really like and respect your respiratory technician, I could see running your proposed changes by him/her to maintain the relationship. But honestly, I wouldn't bother. Each RT at Kaiser is responsible for many patients, and they aren't on the look-out for patients' changing their settings. If yours happened to notice, you could just say that you're doing better with the revised settings and explain a little of the reasoning behind the changes.

Do you have a laptop or desktop computer? If so, please download the Oscar software. (See below.) The information it will give you (and us) will unlock a whole new level of making PAP therapy work for you.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/
