cpap and oxygen
cpap and oxygen
I am using an airsense 10 .I have oxygen from my concentrator hooked up to it. For some reason, when I wake up in the morning, my oxygen level is lower then before I went to sleep. 95 w/oxygen before sleep, no cpap, to 87 w/oxygen and cpap. Any thoughts as to why?
Re: cpap and oxygen
Are you using a pulse oximeter that record all night or just doing a spot check when you first wake up?
What brand and model cpap machine are you using? Hopefully a full data machine so we can see if your machine is doing a good job preventing airway collapses which could lead to lower oxygen levels in your blood.
If your machine isn't doing a good job it is possible that apnea events are happening and causing the desats.
While it is normal to have a slight drop in O2 levels during sleep to go from 95% to 87% exceeds that normal drop which is usually maybe 3 to 4 % during sleep.

I am using an oximeter in the mornings. I have an resmed airsense 10. My oxygen from the concentrator is set at 4. I have a brand new amara face mask.
When I don't use my cpap, my oxygen level upon waking is anywhere from 90 to 96. Thanking you for your input

Re: cpap and oxygen
What model AirSense 10?
There are 4 different models. Model name is on the face of the machine.
If it says AirSense 10 CPAP...it isn't compatible with OSCAR but if it says Elite, AutoSet or AutoSet for Her then you can use OSCAR software and lets see if you are having many apnea events that might be causing the lower O2 numbers.

Re: cpap and oxygen
Resmed Airsense 10 autoset. I know for a fact that I have sleep apnea. I go to a Dr. for that
Re: cpap and oxygen
Well I figured you have sleep apnea or you wouldn't have a cpap machine.
The question right now is if the machine is doing a good job holding the airway open and preventing apneas.
If it is not preventing apneas then that might explain the low O2 numbers and you might need some adjustments to your machine settings.

Thanks for your input. I go back to my Dr. in a couple weeks. He may adjust it then. I did lower my humidity level.

I was prescrbed 2lpm O2 ar night but I found I needed more like 3 or a little more to keep my Sats. up above 88 when asleep. Really the only way to tell what's going on is with a recording pulse ox. I use a Contec CMS50F and Oscar.
