It depends on the FSA plan. The plan is permitted to allow you an extra three months into the following calendar year to make purchases with last year's $$ but many (most?) plans will cut off new spending as of Dec 31. They still let you file claims during the first quarter of next period, but you *may* have the option to actually spend leftovers from the prior year.
