AirMini

Post by kwhitby » Fri Jul 02, 2021 6:16 am

I was previously using AirSense 10 and it was lost during travel. After talking to a CPAP agent I purchased AirMini. Big mistake the AirMini is small and convenient for travelling but the air flow is noisy. I'm using nose pillows. Any recommendations on how to quiet this device? Or has anyone else experienced the same noise from ResMed AirMini?

The reason it is small is that there is little, if any, insulation.

Thanks, I'm returning the airmini.

I tuck it between mattress and bed springs. Holds securely and quieter. Just don’t block vent

Unfortunately the mini being a tiny travel unit that you give up all the things that make it quiet. Smaller blower means high motor RPMs, smaller hose = higher air velocities, and no insulation in the unit. Even the exhaust joints in the hoses are super “airy sounding” because of they way they designed the humidification cartridge holder. I use the F20 with my AirMini and the elbow on the hose has zero diffusing material so it’s a noisy bugger.

Theft?
One more reason to ONLY carry-on your cpap.
Suddenly the Resmed Autosets are worth more than ever before.
One might even consider buying from a "fence" . . .

I had been tempted to get the mini to use when travelling. But the comments have given me second thoughts.

At the risk of going off topic, is there an option other than carry my large and weighty S10?

Cheers

I have an Air Mini and use it with a p10 mask.

I had one replacement 'short hose' where the connector to the long hose was defective and it made a lot of noise as a result.
Visually the 'quiet connector' looked the same as the 'noisy connector'.

Is the mini loud enough that it would get on surrounding people's nerves, such as on a flight?

Noise is not an issue on airplanes.
The engines make quite enough for everyone.
Except when they stop--then there is a lot of screaming.

I have had an AirMini for 3 years. I have never been bothered by the noise. I recently started using it full-time given the Phillips recall and find I'm actually sleeping better with it than the Dreamstation. Just purchased the HumidXF20, I no longer notice the missing humidifier.

The size of the device was a real benefit when traveling. The ability to place it in my backpack was a huge convenience. Not carrying a 3rd bag on a crowded flight is helpful. Its lower draw on power has also been a benefit as I was doing a lot of international travel and smaller batteries are needed when being used in flight.

I can understand the debate whether it's worth the price and that is certainly debatable, but having a backup device+travel convenience was worth it for me.
