2 newbie questions

Post by 1speechpick » Sat Jun 19, 2021 11:57 am

Hi everyone! I am a newbie. I've stopped taking a medication that could be contributing to my high AHI. My doctor has asked me to continue trialing BIPAP for a few days (Resmed Aircuve Vauto) at lower pressures: EPAP 4, IPAP 13, PS 4. I have 3 questions:

1. I'm using a full face mask (Resmed) because with allergies I have a tendency to mouth breathe. When wearing the BIPAP and full face mask, why is my mouth forced open with pressurized air after about 5 minutes?

2. Right now the humidity level is set on 4 but I still find myself with increased sinus congestion after wearing BIPAP for several hours. Any suggestions?

3. Has anyone else had difficulty with increased pressure in your ears?

Thank you all!

Play with the humidity settings....you may need more or you may need less.

Your mouth coming open may be cause by your chin dropping. I had a hard time keeping my mouth closed when I first started and started using a firm, foam cervical collar like this:

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

I have kept my mouth open (much to my wife's distress) for years. There's nothing wrong with it unless for some reason it's preventing you from sleeping. Heck, it often prevents leaks from the part of the mask around the chin.
