Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
When one goes to a surgeon for advice, never be surprised when the answer involves surgery.
Don’t get me started about the nonsense that any of the “Fierce” news rags produce. I’ve had it out with them a few times in my field with them misquoting me and using less than accurate headlines to draw readers.

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
It isn't always a simple matter of single causation in an otherwise perfectly healthy adult.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 8:08 amI don't understand how the insulating foam can be killing people.
I would think that asthmatic patients, for one example among other possibilities, might be more susceptible to adverse reactions than others, which may be one of many reasons the company and the AASM recommended each patient discuss risks with his or her own medical team.
Anything that may contribute to airway inflammation has the potential for triggering cascading medical complications in the vulnerable.
It is much the same as how a circulating virus (or three) may be much more likely to cause death for those who are immunocompromised or who have multiple serious comorbidities.Philips has identified the following to be among the potential health risks of using a recalled device: airway inflammation; skin, eye, and respiratory tract irritation (including upper airway irritation); headache; asthma; toxic carcinogenic effects; cough; chest pressure; or sinus infection . . . -- https://aasm.org/clinical-resources/gui ... p-devices/
No one says: 'I don't understand how the mere flu could be killing people.'
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
My understanding is that the journalists who actually research and write the articles are rarely consulted by the member of the editorial staff who chooses an "eye-catching" title/headline. And often any included clarifying/balancing statements get edited out for space and brevity.
The entire reporting industry is slowly choking to death on its own methods, ad mentality, and hot air.
Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I have been seeing a few mentions here and from other sites about new contamination problems, possibly with the replacement Philips Dreamstation2 CPAPs. Can anyone share more specific information about the new problems. My recalled Dreamstation 1 was replaced with the new model after a long wait but little hassle. If there is a problem now with vapors or pieces of foam from the Dreamstaion 2, I would like to learn more about these. Thanks.

Well for fracks sake. Thanks for pointing out this "change."beautifuldreamer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 9:02 pmSomething new I noticed on the Philips status updates website-
for the units of mine that said Prescription Required- it changed the part where it said the doctor needs to fax the prescription plus the patient info to a Philips fax number-
now it says to call a phone number what you should be ready to give the doctor's name and phone number, plus the patient info that the doctor was supposed to fax to them.
When I called the phone number, there were lots of automated messages to push a number for certain options named- Then when i finally got the option that I thought would get me to speak to a person, it said that it recorded my phone number and I would receive a call within 48 hours.
Very interesting . . .
I'd already done all the faxing and now I see exactly what you are pointing out above.
The sheer stupidity and ineptitude of this process is mind boggling.

Faxed the prescription as directed by the patient portal. Called to answer questions as directed by the patient portal several weeks ago.
Today, the patient portal cannot find my record, either by confirmation code or serial number.

Yup...same.
Though, I called and spoke to someone a couple weeks ago. They gave me a name and said that they are my case handler now. I guess I'll call them on Monday.

I am getting the same error so think it is simply a web site issue this weekend. Try again on Monday.

I got the same message this morning, although I had called on Friday and was told that I was still in the system. Holocron, it never occurred to me to ask if I had a "case handler."

It's not "stupidity and ineptitude"; but sheer genius--
The entire process is a top notch example of pure, unadulterated, homicidal genius.
What Philips-Respironics is doing is a CRIME.
If the justice system fails to solve the problem, the market will.
Make a list of all Philips products--and avoid when you buy.
Not just cpap supplies, but all consumer goods.
Yes, they have hands in many pots.

At this point I have given up on any hope of Philips coming close to handling anything well with this recall.
The 25/50 bucks offer for the System One machines is laughable. I would be telling them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
I won't ever own another Philips Respironics product of any kind...nor will I recommend them either.
I would take one of the cheap chinese knock offs first.
But that's me....I have been known to hold a grudge forever.

Re: Phillips / Philips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I received my replacement DS2 about 4-5 months after I had registered in June 2021. I was registered with Dream Mapper and Care Orchestrator (via DME) which I believe confirmed ownership, current usage, settings, and serial number. My DME was also involved as well in the process, thus the replacement came fairly quickly. I only did only the registration and never called or contacted Philips for updates, they did however email progress updates. From my perspective Philips did reasonably OK given the number of recalled units they need to verify through the registration submissions.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 3:16 pmBut do you think Philips is handling it well?chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 10:41 amThe entire process is a top notch example of pure, unadulterated, homicidal genius.

The folks that have recalled units that need to prove ownership (tracked back to the DME that sold it) and/or can not prove usage or current prescript on file at a DME will likely have a more difficult time. Legally Philips can not provide a CPAP to someone that doesn't have a current prescription and that seems to be much of what people are needing to provide from posts I've seen here and elsewhere.

And by no means fixing anything.

THAT should have been stated from the very beginning of the recall, so that DMEs and their patients could have been well ahead of the game and fill out the required documents from the get go.Grumpy48 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 4:28 pmI received my replacement DS2 about 4-5 months after I had registered in June 2021. Phillips didn't, instead they said "if you have one of these, trade it for a new machine. " Then it turned into "If you have one of these, trade it in for a new or refurbished machine." Now all of a sudden this late in the recall it's "your prescription isn't current. You tried stealing a new CPAP/BIPAP/Ventilator. You lose. Good Day Sir!"
Something doesn't sound right...
