Children with Apnea

Post by aekadvantage » Thu Jun 10, 2021 9:36 pm

I just found out my 7 year old daughter has a moderate case of apnea (through sleep study). She has already had her adenoids and tonsils removed years prior. Her doctor wants to try a steroid inhaler for a few months to see if that helps. She has been using it for about a month now and I haven't seen much improvement. I don't know if she waits often, but she tells me she wakes up once a night. The main symptom she has is extreme drowsiness in the morning and she falls asleep whenever we are in the car or in a seated position with no activity. Has anyone had any experience with a child with a CPAP?

There have been other children here with OSA, but I never heard of using any inhaler for it (what is your MD's reasoning?). There are special small Cpaps, but I'm not as familiar with them as others here, so wait a few hrs until they see your note here and hopefully come in with advice. Could you possibly post (with personal info blocked out) a copy of her test here (in this thread)?

I know I was apneic very early on.
The nightmares go back as far as I remember.
I was always accused of being "lazy".

As I remember, Circadiance was working on Sleepweaver nasal masks in child sizes.
I wonder how that turned out.
Cloth masks can be so comfy.
I rejoiced when they finally made a small adult size.
I wish my Medicare DME would get them for me.
