Nose mask vs. full face

Post by Blmkso » Tue May 25, 2021 6:24 pm

I’ve been using the Resmed N20 nose mask with average leakage around 25 and events of around 3. The last week I’ve been using a full face and leakage is 1-2 and events of around 7. So I’ve got the leakage down but Apnea’s are up. Which would you stick with ?

The first - getting rid of apneas always comes first, and the leaks aren't terrible.

If you're averaging 25 lpm of leaks, then you're likely experiencing a lot of your night well above acceptible levels.

Because of your high leaks, your device may not be flagging apneas that are occurring.

Are you describing the count of events, or AHI?

average leakage around 25
Where are you getting the 25 number? Off the machine or using the software.
If off the machine it's not an average at all. It's what is called a 95% number and all that is...you are at OR BELOW that number for 95% of the night.
The machine LCD number isn't an average...it's a 95% number.
Now available software does offer a median average number but you have to use the software to get it.

Often when people go from a nasal mask to a full face mask they end up needing a little more pressure...so maybe you need a little pressure tweaking to get the AHI down a bit.

All this is guessing because you really having explained the parameters of the numbers you are offering up and wanting advice on.
You need to be more explicit in your statements.
Where are you getting these numbers....off the machine...MyAir...available software????

Pugsy , I see what you are saying. The numbers I use are coming from the My Air site. Is this what you mean by software or is there software available that gives you information. I will try using the pressure a little.

Software information above

MyAir numbers are also 95% numbers.
If I was sleeping good and feeling decent then I wouldn't worry about a 95% leak number of 25 L/min. It's far from horrible.

The smaller the mask, the better the seal, comfort, and stability.
