how to read Oscar - so confused and overwhelmed

Post by dorilou28 » Sun May 16, 2021 12:09 pm

Hi,

Every night, little sleep. Mask isn't fitting great, tried another mask I have and that isn't comfortable for me, I fall asleep for a bit then waking up again.

I'm not a newbie, been doing this since 2013. APAP machine is new, Bleep mask is also new.

I downloaded Oscar and loaded the data? How do I understand what this is showing me? I'm so exhausted from this not sleeping well and waking up and can't function today again.

I attached 2 reports from last night.

From what I am seeing, the pressure is remaining at 5? is this because I am not actually falling asleep? the machine pressure on the APAP starts at 5 and goes to 15 or 20 from what the respiratory therapist told me.

How do I tell from this report if I am breathing with my mouth open? Please help, I would appreciate so much. Thanks

Hi - would like to help you but could you possibly look again at Oscar re posting what and what not? It's important to get the thing 'right' so that experts here (and there are some) can interpret the results and help as much as possible... what you posted was a good first try, but not really the best presentation to give us the most info Oscar can show. You did get some basics, but not quite the right set-up (can't really see graphs for instance) and we would like to help.

Hi Julie, thank you for your reply. I’ve never used Oscar before so I’m not sure what I’m supposed to grab from Oscar and show here. Can you please let me know what I need to post? I want to look for graphs? I went back into Oscar and have no clue how to capture the entire chart showing lines across from it. Can you please let me how to do this? It's not showing the entire night because I am not sure how to do a screen shot for the entire night. Thanks

You did put the correct graphs in, but not how they need to look - and I don't actually use O. myself - but others will be along with the right info soon - I supposed it would all be layed out in the instructions, but apparently not, tho' you're close... you're doing great for a newbie :D .

Please wait for others (like Pugsy) because which graphs - and which not - is important, plus there's more to the layout, though you got a bit closer there. The bit with colors needs to go down the left side, but again, wait please. I'm going to bump you up here now with this post.

To help understanding of what you see read the SleepyHead tutorial topic in the Announcements section of the main forum.
OSCAR is based on SleepyHead so it will get you heading in the right direction.

Thanks everyone. I will go read and I’ll be back with hopefully the correct graph to show you all. I appreciate everyone’s response.

Just based on what I've been able to figure out, I'd suggest bumping your minimum pressure to 7, you're mostly recording hypopneas, and the answer to that is 'more pressure'.

Hi, How do I get the Oscar reading to show a full 8-`10 days? I'm struggling with trying to post the graph. I met with Stuart just now and we don't know why it's not showing data for the full 8 hours.
Thanks.
