Sleep Is Tough to Get

Some studies link trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep to burnout (though other studies don't find a clear connection). Don’t fool around with sleep problems. If you don’t get enough sleep, it can bring higher chances of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease.

I'm a testament to that. I spent high school through age 45 functioning on 3-4 hours/day of sleep. Now I'm obese (BMI 35), have hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, etc. All features of metabolic syndrome. Makes me wonder had my sleep been better through the years if I would not have as many issues. Of course, losing weight would help a lot too.

CPAP therapy gave me a false illusion to continue sleeping like I did previously. I felt as good with 3 hours of sleep with CPAP as I did with 10 hours without. Took me a while before I realized that 7 hours of sleep with a CPAP is amazing.

Now I'm reading studies about how lack of sleep increases chances of dementia and it has me concerned for long-term risks. Of course, if I get it, I won't remember it. What was I talking about again?
