Hello all.
I've had OSD for years. I tried a CPAP years ago and could not tolerate the full face mask. I used nothing. My situation and health has deteriorated to the point that I had to try again. I became aware of the Nasal Pillow mask. I used it last night for the first time and I'm certain I can make this work. But I had some questions about what I experienced my first night, I believe with regard to the settings. I'm hoping the experienced folks here can help.
When it came on (because I put the mask on), the air was intense. It was like drinking from a firehose. The air was coming hard and fast, not at all in rhythm with my breathing. In fact, it almost seemed to be opposite. When I would exhale, it was pushing air to me, and when I would inhale, there was nothing there. My body seemed to be fighting it and it took a while for it to settle into my rhythm.
Ideally, to me, the pressure would be low when I start, and, to my thoughts, stay low until I fall asleep.
I played with settings last night without really knowing what I was doing.
So, 1, what should I check to make sure I didn't mess up any preset settings?
2, will/has the machine learn(ed) my breathing pattern so that this won't happen again?
3, If the answer to #2 is no, am I right about how I want the settings and if so, how can I set it that way?
Thanks.
Ed

Re: Newbie: DreamStation settings question
It would help to know exactly which machine you are using along with all the settings.
Like starting pressure....using the ramp or not....using any exhale relief or not.

Re: Newbie: DreamStation settings question
Philips DreamStation Auto CPAP. I have just found out about the ramp up button. So, I'm set at 6 to start now and I understand with the ramp up I can get it down to 4.5. I will be trying that tonight.
What is this exhale relief you mentioned?
