Dreamwear ffm sizing

Post by sleepylawyer » Sat Apr 03, 2021 1:40 am

I have been suffering from chronic nasal congestion/stuffy nose for several months so I have been looking for a full face mask but not been able to find one i can sleep with.
the only comfortable mask i have come across is the dreamwear ffm. I have the medium sized cushion and frame and used the same in the dreamwear under the nose nasal mask but I think the nose piece in the ffm is smaller than the nasal mask because I feel like i am not getting enough air through my nose, Its similar to the feeling when I use the dreamwear nasal in small size.

According the sizing chart I am barely a medium. The ffm fits my mouth perfectly wihtout leaks only problem is the nasal cushion. In my country, insurance doesn't cover mask costs so I pay everything out of pocket. I have already bought resmed f20 and f and p simplus both of which i couldnt tolerate.

Which size should I try next large or medium wide?
Only cushions are not sold here I have to buy the whole mask.

Not knowing you at all makes it hard to advise - you know your face so much better and its underlying structure. You may have to try both to find out what's best, or look for a different one altogether.

Are there any measurements I could provide of my face that will help? coz I dont wanna spend another 200-300$ on masks

Unfortunately measurements really aren't much help for sizing ideas. Too many minor little variables.

Check EBay sellers for just the cushions and not the entire mask. Some EBay sellers will ship internationally.
Amazon as well sometimes.

Does anyone know the difference between the medium wide and large cushion of the dreamwear ffm?
are the nose holes both deeper and little wide in the large or only deeper?
are the nose holes only wider in medium wide or deep too?
how much more up-down length does the large have compared to medium?

i don't know if this is helpful at all, but there is a "fitness pack" at cpap.com-

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/philip ... k-fit-pack

they don't necessarily ship every product globally. you'd have to contact them to see if they would ship this to india.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I hope I can help answer your question; I just measured three of my Dreamwear Full Face masks - a medium, a large, and a medium-wide. (I use the medium-wide myself, alternating with the Dreamwear nasal cushion depending on stuffy nose/mouth breathing times.)

First, the overall dimensions of the three FFMs are actually very similar - I want to say "the same", but I checked by holding them back to back and used a basic ruler, so this is not a scientific comparison! I also held each one to my face and felt they all covered the same area. The mouth openings are also very very similar, if not the same. It could be that the basic "mouth" part of the mask (clear plastic area) are the same size in all three masks.

There are two differences in the shapes of the three masks.
First is the depth and curve of the masks that I hope I can describe. The large and the medium fit against my face in a very similar way except for the top under-the-nose nasal cushion section - the part above the clear hard plastic. The top softer nasal cushion part curves and has sides which are slightly rigid. The medium mask top left-and-right edges fit closer to each side under my nose than the large mask; the large mask cushion edges fit a little wider. I think that is pretty much the only difference between the medium and large masks. The medium-wide (which I use) is somewhat flatter, with less angle of curve on each end, and is more comfortable on my face because there is less pressure from the slightly rigid upper corners of the top cushion against the area above my mouth. (I have a big head for a woman, I'd say a medium man's size, by the way.) I imagine with a narrower, sharper face, the medium-wide could cause leakage on the sides from the nasal cushion section.

Okay, now to finally answer your question about the nose opening sizes: the large and the medium mask nose openings are the same shape and seem to be the same size. (Kind of lima-bean-shaped, about .5 inch high by 1 inch wide.) The medium-wide mask nose opening is a completely different shape - a horizontal strip, rounded at the ends, that is a hair under .5 inches high by a solid 1.5 inches long. With the extra width, I feel like my nostrils don't have to "fit" this one just right in order to get air. I do hope this helps and apologize for being so wordy - I tried to be accurate but of course so much of mask-fitting is subjective.

Have you also considered the Resmed F30? I found a lot of positive reviews for it, bought it and I like it. It adjusted well to my face. I had a bunch of leaks with the Dreamwear Nasal and only used for 3 nights.
Machine: Airsense 10 Autoset (humidity 7, slimline hose) (5 years)
Mask: Resmed F30 (medium) (1 year)
Previous masks: Swift FX Nano (5 years); Dreamwear Nasal (few days); Swift FX pillow (few days)
Sleep study in 2016 with AHI 12 and some oxy desats

Thank you! It is indeed very helpful. I think I am going to buy the large size, I was hesitant to buy it because I saw pictures of all the sizes and large looked like it was longer in the up-down length compared to medium but I think it was just the camera angle.

I have but I heard a lot of people have problems with the alignment of nose holes.

Back when the dreamwear FFM came out I gave it a try for grins and took some pictures for people to give sort of an idea about sizing.
top left..small....top right...medium
bottom left...medium wide and the large is lower right
I no longer have the mask but to me the medium wide was essentially not all that different in overall size than the large but the nasal opening holes were markedly different.

Thank you! I was referencing this image only when I said MW AND large have different up down length. I think large will still fit me better because I tried the large and MW dreamwear nasal sizes and large although leaked alot, I still felt I could get more with it compared to MW.
