Ramp start up

Got a new ResMed for her. I have always had my cpap auto turn on when I put my mask on my face. The tech that set up my machine would not set it up that way. Now I need to turn it on myself. I have back issues so when I get set up in bed it is a real task to roll over to start my cpap. It is driving me crazy. How do you have your machine set up?

Ramp allows your machine to start at a lower pressure and then gradually to increase the pressure over a set period. The beginning of the ramp, with lower pressure, may make it easier to fall asleep. Once you have fallen asleep, the pressure can be increased to the range that is needed to keep your upper airway from collapsing.

What you want is SmartStart, where the machine turns on when you start breathing. You should be able to turn it on in My Options.

Welcome to the forum! I found almost any CPAP problem could be answered here.

Without SmartStart I would have to touch my machine, which I try to avoid at all costs.

Which reminds me, I should check the filter at some point.

Yep, I would be lost without the SmartStart feature.

I liked it too, but both my machines had that fail within a year.
When 2nd failed (turned ON, but not off, and would restart at random when not in use), I turned it off, and now do it manually.

Thanks for information. I just turned on Smartsense on my machine. Will try it tonight.

+1 for getting rid of ramp up. I paid cash for my machine since insurance refused to cover it and the company rep showed me how to set things up the way I want. I got rid of the ramp up pretty soon - I figure if I am going to sleep with it I need to get adapted to it from the outset or else the change might be too jarring for me when I am trying to sleep. I also have the therapy running for a while when I am working at my computer with the mask on, trying to get myself to adapt to the mask.

I used ramp for the first few months, until I got used to things, then disabled it. It IS just for user comfort, and insurance shouldn't care if you use it or not.
