typically when you inhale and exhale it’s not a steady amount of volume displaced over time rather it is a larger amount of air initially followed by a slower moving smaller amount of air as you approach maximum or minimum safe lung capacity ending when some threshold is reached.
If you use OSCAR, you will be able to see exactly what is happening on each breath you take - inhale and exhale.
You are describing what is happening when you are awake and consciously controlling the breathing process. When you fall asleep, I'll bet you breathe gently and rhythmically.
The humidifier effect is a mystery to me. You might spot something using OSCAR, but I'm not optimistic.

So I am happy to report that after years of using CPAP, I am 2 days side effect free while using the Humidifier.
I recently replaced the nasal pillow and mask harness. I don't know if they changed the design or what but I used to use the large nasal pillow
and it felt restrictive. I ordered a new harness that came with a medium pillow off from amazon. I wore it that same night. There was no restriction at all. It felt like I was breathing the same as without the mask. After 2 days of good sleep I decided to try the humidifier again as the new mask was drying out my nose really bad. So far so good. According to my online report I have the same amount of leak and apnea occurrences as before.

remarkable, innit? what can work for one person and not another.
i go through a complicated rigmarole masking up. and if ONE TINY part isn't exactly in the right place, it can all go to hell in a hot hurry.
glad you found the solution and glad you came back to tell us!
