s9 Humidifier - pins broken -anyone fix it?

Post by petee_c » Mon Mar 08, 2021 3:35 pm

I have a refurb'd resmed s9 autoset from my cpap supplier. I bought it about 3 years ago as a machine to use at our cottage in the summers.

It was set to 9cmH20, but just have been fiddling with Sleepyhead software and running it in APAP mode.

I got the heated tube error, and bought a new heated tube. But that didn't fix it. Turns out one of the pins in the connection at the humidifier is no longer springy.

I've taken the humidifier apart, but not sure what the best way to MacGyver it into working again.

I could run the machine at a lower humidity setting without a heated tube.

The machine has just over 10,700 hrs on it. So i'm not sure if it would be wise to get a new humidifier for it.

My prescribed machine is a Resmed Airsense 10 elite (no APAP) function. It is set as rx'd at 9cmH20, but I'm trying to figure out if that may need to be changed. The 10 has about 3300 hrs on it.

I removed the pin from the orange plastic, I couldn't fix the spring, but I crimped the body of the pogo pin a little bit and it sticks out now a bit...

Ran last night without any hitches...

Does the Thermometer icon stay on the main menu when you have a climateline hose attached?

I am looking at getting a replacement pin and soldering a new one on... Haven't found a decent cdn supplier for the pin yet.

10,000+ hrs? Hope you have a back-up, never mind the humidifier.

last line of original post.

I'm ok with the high hours. The time I've owned it, it's been running at 9cmH20.... if it was running at a higher pressure, the blower would have to work harder etc.

Can you describe how you opened the H5i to access the pins?

Sure,

The bottom has a silver coloured plastic piece, It is held on by 4 clips.
one clip at each of the 2 back corners.
2 near the front. I'll try to post a pic and point to them...

Release each of these clips and the bottom should wiggle off.

Once you get that off, there are 2 sets of wires with connectors. they black 3 wire one on mine just pulls off, the white connector there is a little tab you pinch.

The pins are housed in an orange piece of plastic that splits in half. To remove the orange piece, you need to coax the orange tab through the black plastic piece... you'll see. I used a small thin blade on a swiss army knife.

It all snaps back together.

I'll add a couple pics later

True, I can get the pin for $1.32 from a canadian electrical supply place and save a bunch of plastic from going into the landfill.... It took me 15 mins to dissassemble the humidifier without instructions the 1st time... Takes about 5 mins now.

Thank you for the photographs. You mentioned the pogo pins were available to replace cheaply, do you have the details of the pins required and the supplier in Canada/America? I am in Australia so I want to find a local supplier or see if i can get it shipped from Canada etc,
