Hybrid Vehicle for Electrical Power Backup
Some guys in a forum are talking about the Ford F150 Hybrid has a 110-volt outlet built-in. It can be used to power a refrigerator, TV, some lights and !!! a CPAP.
Some other guys have smaller vehicles like Volts and have done something with inverters.
Anyone here using their hybrid vehicle for electrical backup?

Re: Hybrid Vehicle for Electrical Power Backup
The F150 Hybrid has a battery capacity of 1.5 Kilowatt hours. That equivalent to 125 Amp Hours (at 12 volts)
According the the ResMed battery guide, a ReMed AS 10, at 12cm without humidity or heated hose will use about 1 amp per hour (with a 50% margin to prevent complete battery draw).
So let's call it 0.75A per hour.
On battery with the DC-DC adapter this means you could use your ResMed for about 166 hours (20 days).
On AC (assuming about 40% efficiency loss), you could get about 100 hours or 12 days.

Would you mind adding to your calculation a refrigerator, a kitchen light, a TV, a microwave, and Gramp's automated nasal hair trimmer?
Re: Hybrid Vehicle for Electrical Power Backup

I am glad I finished eating.
That snort would have meant a do-over.

Several years ago, at a Makerfaire, there was a vendor promoting the idea of
hybrid owners joining a network of volunteers supplying emergency power to homes on request.
Of course, they had their own converter for sale--I smelled a rat--we walked away.
