AutoStart on the ResMed AutoSet Spirit

Post by jdschooler » Thu Mar 10, 2005 6:38 pm

Anyone using the AutoStart feature on the ResMed AutoSet Spirit? I have been using it for the past 2 days and have found that after I take of the Nasal Pillows it will stop like is it supposed to but return later to find it funning full bore and of course with a High Leak Message. This also screws up the leak data in the smartdata results. I can only assume that it is so sensitive to pressure changes in order to turn on and off that it is sensing pressure changing in the house when doors open or close? Anyone else have any experience with this?

I too have the ReMed AutoStart Spirit, and I use the auto-start feature. I have found that it only senses when I exhale into the mask. Otherwise, I can inhale all I like and it won't start. When I remove the mask, the machine shuts down in about 5 seconds. I wonder why yours would be running full bore. It is actually auto start/stop. Perhaps the nasal pillows present too high a restriction and the machine can't detect that you are not wearing the pillows. Yyou might try another mask or no mask at all and see if it shuts itself off.

That crossed my mind too....I'll try the mask tonight...It's no big deal to disable that function....just kind of neat feature.

I failed to mention that I really like the auto start/stop feature. Just out of curiosity, what mask do you have the machine set to?

It is set to standarg becuase I don't have any of the masks that it has programmed....I use a Respironics Comfort Gel Mask and the Swift Nasal Pillows. I tried it with the mask before bed and it did kick on out of the blue.

If wondering about what mask setting to use with the Spirit, I saw this posted by Titrator when the Swift was being discussed back in August 2004:

"I spoke to the local Resmed Rep today and she told me that it has been tested on the ResMed Spirit, Respond, and VPAP and give accurate reports. She also noted that you would use the Mirage setting for mask choice. She also stated that any mask that says Ultra would use the Ultra setting and anything with Mirage would us the Mirage setting."
