Hello to all,
I registered on this forum because I´m looking for advice about my BiPAP machine. It´s relatively old refurbished Respironics AutoBiPAP M-Series machine. I would need to know if it has minimal BPM rate setting hidden somewhere, or not... I noticed it´s probably set to BPM rate around 20, which is way too much for me, especially while resting. BPM between 15-16 breaths per minute would be ideal, because when I´m breathing as I used to, machine is giving me "extra" breaths. This is forcing me to breathe a bit faster than "normal", which is very uncomfortable for me. I hope my description is understandable, as I´m not from english-native speaking country.
I looked everywhere in settings menu, I was able to set IPAP a EPAP pressure levels and some other settings like BiPAP or AutoBIPAP, but I´m not sure it this machine even has BPM settings?
I´m aware that more recent machines like Dreamstation probably have BPM settings, but with this "old" one, I don´t know. I didn´t find anything about it in users manual either.
Does anybody has experience with setting BPM rate on this machine? Let me know please....

Respironics BiPAP Auto M-Series Question
Re: Respironics BiPAP Auto M-Series Question
No. The Respironics BiPap M Series Auto doesn't have a setting for BPM. None of the M series machines ever had it.

Re: Respironics BiPAP Auto M-Series Question
It depends on the model of the newer bilevel/bipap machines. Not all of them will have a BPM setting.
The ASV model does and the ST model does but the regular bilevel machines don't have BPM settings available.
On the newer DreamStation models....Models DSX900 or higher are the only models with BPM.
The regular bipap...DSX600 or DSX700...they don't have BPM.
Now the Flex setting can cause a person to feel like their breaths are rushed and you do have Flex available on the M series machine.
It's called BiFlex and the setting of 3 can seem rather fast for some people. I know it did for me. It's more of a timing issue for the change between inhale and exhale but it can feel like the machine is rushing a bit.
So if you are using BiFlex...either reduce it or turn it off.

Re: Respironics BiPAP Auto M-Series Question
I honestly don't know....I don't remember if there was a Ti min and max on those old M series bipaps. I don't think there was.klm49 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 5:53 am

I do know with Flex enabled it can "rush" someone to breathe and with Flex disabled there is Rise Time which can be adjusted to affect the speed of the change from inhale to exhale.
I don't have the manual for that machine.
I would suggest that the OP go get the manual and read up on Flex and Rise Time and play with those settings to start with and see if it helps resolve the issues because I know for sure that both Flex and Rise Time could possible be a factor in his feelings of being rushed to breathe causing the perceived BPM increase he doesn't like.

Per the quick start guide though....no Ti min and max settings available
